I use AI to help me with my college work sometimes, and I wanted to see if claude was any better then gpt4, or at least somewhat good with less bad of a price. I tried creating an account with Anthro for that reason, and for some reason I can’t redeem free credits?

Tried one phone number, didn’t work out. Thinking it was just a one time thing, I grabbed my other number and it said the exact same thing, neither number could be used for some odd reason?

Has the websites terms changed? Is free credits still being issued? Please help!

I'm a student and is exploring different AI tools. After trying Openai, I read that Anthropic is a lot better so now I want to try it BUT when I verified my phone number, it says something about cannot use my number to verify right now and when I tried verifying again, it says "organization already has a verified number". I tried contacting the support but they haven't responded yet and it's been a week. I'm hesitant to use money since I haven't tried it yet.

Today I found out you can get a free $5 USD credit to try out Anthropic's API for Claude 3, so I decided to do it even though I loathe phone verification (though it's better than bank details, barely). I go ahead and give my number, receive the verification message, input it into their console... and get some bullshit message like;
"Sorry, this number cannot be used for verification right now."

I'm like ??? Why not? It was good enough for you to send a msg to. I'm on the list of approved locations Anthropic will serve (Aus). So I go to do it again, and now it tells me when I put my number in, "Organisation already has verified number" and doesn't go any further. So, not only do I not get the free $5 credit (though it still teases you with it on every screen), but they won't let me use my number to re-verify, because it already is... but also isn't.

Great system and first impression.

I've been messing with Claude Sonnet and keep running into limits. I wanted to try it out locally using Claude Engineer but keep seeing the below error:

API Error: Error code: 400 - {'type': 'error', 'error': {'type': 'invalid_request_error', 'message': 'Your credit balance is too low │

I went to the billing. Saw the $5 promo option, verified my phone number but it's always at $0 credit balance. What am I doing wrong?

I started using Claude 3 early April and really enjoyed using it. When my free credit ran out I bought $25 more. A day or so later my account disappeared, and I was getting "Account Error" on logon attempts.
Was I banished? I don't know. I received no notifications. After submitting numerous 'appeals', I still don't know what happened. Anthropic has not responded except to say that my problem is being fixed without any further explanation.
For a while I could not create a new account because my old account still locking up my phone number. Later I was finally able to re-create my old account, but my prompt history was gone and my credit was zero.
So I will not buy any credits until I receive my old prompts back and an honest explanation of what happened.

UPDATE: I just checked my console workbench and I see that Anthropic has restored all of my missing prompts and unused Build credit. Woo Hoo! The squeaky wheels get the grease!! I would still like an explanation for all of this disruption, but in any case, I will start using Claude again!!!

I would do the same as you - not cool Anthropic. Depending on your location you could possibly submit a DSAR (data subject access request) for a copy your data to force the issue and set a deadline for a response. If Claude is to be believed, prompt history with an LLM would likely constitute personal data so would fall under these regulations. If you aren't in the UK there are many other countries/jurisdictions with similar data regulations. If Anthropic can't produce this data (e.g. they deleted it/can't find it) then under UK regs this is a data breach and can be escalated to the Information Comissioner's Office No idea if this is of any help to your case - I hope Anthropic do the right thing for you - there may be equivalent regs you can use orthese regs may help other users in your situation and perhaps one or two of these more formal and time consuming requests may make Anthropic up their game when it comes to support (and how they handle user data responsibly). Here's a summary of Claude's rather lengthy initial answers (summary also by Claude). When asked if user interactions with an AI language model would fall under the scope of a Data Subject Access Request in UK: Claude: "The scope of a UK Data Subject Access Request (DSAR) could include user interactions with an AI language model (LLM) if the AI system collects or processes any information that directly or indirectly identifies the user, as this would constitute personal data. The organization providing the AI service would likely be considered a data controller, and under the UK GDPR, data subjects have the right to request access to their personal data from data controllers, subject to certain exceptions or limitations. We've been using OpenAPI's API for a few months, and now wanting to add Claude as it may be better for some cases. I entered a UK phone number, received a code, entered the code, then Anthropic says that it cannot be used for verification. I tried again, received the same code and the site says the phone number is already verified. So it is verified but the test credits aren't added.

Is there any free tier for the API, and are the test credits only for use by US entities?
