I am in the IB Program, and I take IB Math which requires a math paper, I chose Apex as my topic. I chat gptd a research question and this is what I got:
How does the distribution of weapon damage per second (DPS) among different weapon types impact the overall effectiveness of player strategies in Apex Legends, and how can mathematical modeling be utilized to optimize weapon selection and usage strategies for maximizing player performance in various in-game scenarios?
However, I think I could make the research question more specific by:
What Auto weapon would be best to use off of damage per mag and legend usage?
It sounds wonky but any recommendations/critiques are appreciated

Heyo, i graduated from the IB program over a decade ago. I loved the freedom they gave when assigning projects such as this. In general for math papers, you want to identify a specific problem you will solve, identify the variables pertaining to the problem, and apply assumptions/values to your variables to achieve a theoretical answer. The more limited in scope your original question, the less variables you need to account for, and the easier/more definitive your answer. I advise starting very constrained, and then loosening your constraints bit by bit. Try starting with a VERY constrained question: Which naked (no attachments) automatic weapon can deliver 200 damage output the fastest? Your constraints per gun here are simple: -Base mag size -Base fire rate -Base damage -Base reload speed Once you gave developed an equation for the Time-To-Knock (IB prolly wont want you to say kill lol) of an opponent in purple armor with base weapons, you can change the original question to add constraints/variables as you see fit until you arrive at a truly interesting question/answer. Just remember to start very constrained and expand bit by bit.

You want to specify wich level of play and if it's early or late game. Pubs, ranked and competitive are like 3 different games. Running a spitfire in pubs is perfectly fine, even in ranked early game, but comp players will not pick up a spitfire for anything other than a contested landing.
