What is API Testing? The Beginner’s Guide | PractiTest
July 10, 2025 - The UI may have data input edits, for example, that help ensure the data passed in an API is correct and valid. However, you should test for invalid data inputs at the API level to see how invalid data is handled – not only by the API, but also by the sending and receiving components.
Can anyone recommend an open API for testing purposes?

API testing
For API testing, I only look at response codes and response schema, but I check several kinds of scenarios. I test ranges including both value ranges and string length ranges (max, max +1, min, min -1) I test data types. (should it be a string? Send an int. etc) I omit parameters and check the right response code for optional vs required I test with authenticated and unauthenticated users I test users with and without permissions I test both true and false for bool parameters I actually pull the whole response and grab the schema from the swagger file and use a schema validator to make sure they are the same. For integration testing, I basically do front end E2E tests on the backend where it makes sense. More on reddit.com
[Guide] Mastering API Testing: A Practical Roadmap for Beginners
Really appreciate you putting this guide together, super helpful and honestly felt like it came from someone who's been there lol. Would love to share something that helped our team recently, someone on Reddit actually suggested this tool called Keploy for API and integration testing, and we decided to give it a shot. Didn't expect much at first, but it turned out to be crazily good. We’ve got a small QA team and used to spend a ton of time doing manual testing. Keploy basically records API calls while you're using the app (via a Chrome extension), then turns those into test cases automatically. It seriously saved us so much time, especially during sprints. Just thought I’d share in case someone else finds it useful, definitely wasn’t on my radar until that Reddit comment, and now it’s part of our workflow. Again, loved the guide, bookmarking this one! Why is API Testing Important?
The move to cloud computing has highlighted the importance of Application Programming Interfaces (APIs). With the rise in cloud applications and interconnect platforms, API testing is a necessity. Many of the services that we use every day rely on hundreds of different interconnected APIs, if any one of them fails then the service will not work!

What is an example of API testing?
In order to better understand API testing, let's consider a healthcare app that enables users to book appointments with local doctors and view lab results. It connects with healthcare providers' systems via APIs so that patients can check appointment availability, request appointments, and access their medical results.

r/QualityAssurance on Reddit: Can anyone recommend an open API for testing purposes?
October 6, 2022 -
The title more or less, at the moment I am learning rest sharp, but I have not found a decent open API for writing tests, something that isn't too easy nor too difficult.
Preferably with some POST and GET methods, so I can write tests for getting data I posted.
Also if anyone can link me a example of how to develop a API testing framework, how to order namespaces any such :)
Thanks in advance.
