In App Analytics within App Store Connect, what exactly is the difference between a Download and an Installation? I always thought that once you download an app, it gets installed automatically. Shouldn't Downloads and Installations be the same? However, in App Analytics, these numbers are different
Installs are when someone actually opens the app. There are surprisingly a lot of times where someone, even myself, downloads an app and never open it. So intalls will be always be lower than downloads. But an even greater number of people don’t share information with Apple so it doesn’t get reported. You will need to implement your own analytics or service (fire base/mixpanel/amplitude etc) to monitor first app opens. More on reddit.com

There are more than 50 reports that are available through the App Store Connect API, with these reports aimed at giving developers more insight into their app performance. Apple added App Store, iOS, and CloudKit data analytics that provide hundreds of new metrics. IMHO, a great improvement thanks to DMA. For anyone interested on what you can work with as a developer when it comes to App Store Connect APIs, here's the documentation . In the past a lot of developers had to rely on third party services for more detailed crash reports, analytics and engagement data either through custom tracking implemented on the backend or leveraging services such as Firebase, Supabase or multiple 3rd party services covering things you could not do natively. This should allow more developers to drop Firebase and other 3rd party services in favor of native APIs from Apple that were simply not available in the past; I wish this would lead to App Store Connect and Apple Developer Account UX/UI improvements. Hi, I am diving in App Store Connect analytics / sales and trends and I can't find an accurate way to measure / calculate lifetime value (LTV) of users based on different cohorts? I also can't find accurate retention data as there is no data populated in the retention graph. More on developer.apple.com
App Store Connect - App Analytics - Are Smart Banner installs included in Web Referrers?
Performance partners is an affiliate program for Apple hardware, not software. The iTunes affiliate program is for media and software. The software side no longer pays out to affiliates but still passes the tracking information (affiliate id and campaign id) you are looking for. And as far as I know the iTunes affiliate program never tracked click through and installs. App analytics can tell you some of that, indirectly. Third party solutions like branch may also be helpful.
