But a few hours later, I received an email from Apple stating: "We’ve reviewed your request, and access to your account ( [email protected] ) has been denied." After that, I tried everything, but my Apple ID account is still unusable. I contacted Apple Support multiple times, but they couldn’t help me. I am truly disappointed and don’t understand what has happened. I called Apple Support many times, and each time the staff gave me the same unclear answer, saying that my Apple ID is permanently deactivated. There is no way to back up all the data on my iPhone to another device because if I do, the deactivated Apple ID will transfer as well. Additionally, all the photos and videos I paid to back up on iCloud are now gone forever. I paid Apple to store my photos, believing that iCloud was safe, and now I've lost everything. I am really disappointed and exhausted. I thought using iCloud was safe, and now this is the result I get. Answer from Ok-Panic-8207 on reddit.com

I'm trying to get into my very old apple account from years ago. I believe it was one of my first accounts but I couldn't remember the password so I went to forgot password, put in the email and it said the account is locked and can't be used. And the account uses an iCloud email. I don't know what to do. Is there any way to get into the account or am I screwed?

Same thing. Moreover, my iPhone is still logged into this deactivated account and it doesn't allow me to log out. Therefore, it's essentially bricked by Apple for no reason and they are refusing to do anything about it.

I got a notification on my Mac a few days back that there was an issue with my Apple ID. It said I needed to reenter my pass, so I did and I got "This Apple ID is not active. I requested a unlock then a day after I got a email saying they DECLINED my unlock. I contacted support and they confirmed my Apple ID was gone forever and all I could do was create a new one. As I cannot sign out, I created a new one and linked it to App store and iMessage only. I have important things on my iCloud, so that's why I'm so desperate to unlock this account. I saw a post (https://www.reddit.com/r/applehelp/comments/186ej02/my_apple_id_has_been_permanently_disabled_and_was/) and their Apple ID was unlocked randomly. What are the chances this will hopefully happen to me?? I am willing to do anything to get this account back. (I haven't done anything wrong, I read the terms and conditions and I haven't broke them, I am just a normal Apple user. The only thing I did was send "hello" to my friend that day.)

r/MacOS on Reddit: Why does my Apple ID keep getting locked?
May 10, 2024 -

Machine: Macbook 2016 Phone: Note 20 Ultra, Note 8 Services: Primarily gmail accounts, google and samsung for cloud backup.

SHORT VERSION: My apple ID keeps getting locked when I hardly ever mess with it. Im an average computer user who doesn't do much outside of social media, youtube, reddit, quora, pornhub and occassional basic video/image/audio editing. Anyone have thoughts on likely culprits?

LONG VERSION: Why do you suppose this keeps happening seemingly on it's own? I used to think it perhaps had something to do with the rare occasions I used NordVPN because eventually it occured to me thats what kept getting me blocked out of the Mail app. But I havent used a vpn in a long while, like not since 2023. And I don't find myself at an apple ID login screen very much either. If I do it's usually because im trying to download something in the app store, or Dropbox (which I don't really use) is doing that thing where it randomly alerts me that I can't use it until I login with my Apple ID.

It's always months inbetween attempts, but whenever I end up needing to (certain the login info is correct), it tells me my "Apple ID has been locked for security reasons". When I go through the annoying procedure of unlocking it, it always takes some ridiculous extra steps because it never accepts my security answers. As if I forgot my first dog........yea right. As I am not especially cybersecurity literate, i am not sure whether this reads like a hacker threat or just a security wire I somehow keep tripping.

In summary, I am running out of oomph for this and im developing the habit of just saying "screw it" to any mundane problem that takes more than 60 seconds to fix. It's not even a laziness thing, it's simply becoming a "do i even care that much?" thing. I know these companies are trying to make our information more safe and secure but holy sheep sheet, it's just getting more and more annoying to deal with and making it easier and easier to leave it for other things. Is it just me?

You have a Mac so you could Enable 2factor authentication in the system prefs/settings. Accounts with security questions are old and more vulnerable. Locking of accounts occurs if the password has been entered incorrectly too many times in a short period of time. One possibility is if someone knows the email address for your account then keeps going to any Apple login page and enters the password wrong to lock you out. So if, possible change the email address for your account and see how that goes.

I know this post is old, but it came up in a search, so in case you or anyone is still looking for an answer, I've found that it's probably a credential stuffing attack. That's likely if your Apple ID/Account name is your main e-mail address, that you've also used to sign up for other services. As long as you haven't re-used your Apple Account password for other services, it's harmless, but annoying. The only way to fix it is to change to a different primary e-mail address for your Apple Account. What happens is that some web site or app you signed up for in the past got hacked at some point, and your e-mail address plus the password you used got stolen and passed around the web in a list. There have been several such breaches of large services like Dropbox, etc., or it could be some obscure shopping site or forum you used once. Hackers get these lists, and use robots to try to sign into other sites using them, hoping that you used the same password for your Apple Account, or PayPal, etc. That's why you must never use the same password for more than one website or service. Once your address gets on one of these lists, you'll never get it off, and you'll always have some fool somewhere trying to log into your accounts with the wrong password, over and over. You can check here whether your e-mail address has been found in any of the known lists, though it won't tell you what password was used: Have I Been Pwned: Check if your email has been compromised in a data breach If you're on there, don't worry - just make sure you're not still using any old passwords, and that you have a different one for every website and app. If you're not really sure, maybe you want to change all your passwords. Probably a password manager is useful for that. What's not useful for this problem is enabling two-factor authentication, as many people suggest. Multiple failed login attempts will still cause your Apple Account to be locked, even with 2FA on. You need to change the primary address, i.e. what you log in with, to something else that's not on one of the lists. What I've done is change my Apple Account primary address from [email protected] to [email protected] . Then I added back [email protected] as a secondary address, so that people can still contact me on FaceTime and Messages, and also set it to be the outgoing caller ID. I had to do that in the apps and settings on my Mac and my iPhone. [edit: I can confirm that doing this has solved the problem for me, and not created any new ones. The locked account every few days has ended, and hasn't happened once in the month since I changed the address. People can still contact me on Messages and FaceTime using my normal address.] Many e-mail services, like Google's, allow you to make extra addresses with this "plus addressing". Mail sent there will go to your main address. It might be tagged with "apple", or put in a folder called "apple", so watch out for that. Other e-mail services let you set up mail forwarder addresses, so you could use one of those, or even set up a different e-mail account somewhere, just to use for your Apple Account.

So I bought my wife her first ever apple product (an Ipad A16) to do some drawing/digital media creation. We created an apple account and set up the new ipad, went to the app store and purchased a specific app that she knew she wanted, after which she also installed netflix/hulu and everything was fine. She only used it for about 20-30 mins after that just testing out her new app and deleting some apps she knew she wouldn't use. The next morning it said she had to sign in again, but gave us "an unknown error has occurred" after entering the password. We can use the ipad and use the apps we have already downloaded, but we cannot download anything else. We went online to icloud.com to try and sign in, and it said her account had been locked for security reasons. We had to fill out an unlock request and send it off, and this morning we got an email back saying the request had been denied. Now we aren't even given the option to request the unlock again, when we put in the email/password it just says "Your account has been locked and cannot be used". I called apple support and they said removing the activation lock "might" work, but we cannot sign in to request it and we cannot sign in to request a refund for the purchase we made in order to justify a new account. Any Ideas would be greatly appreciated.

January 27, 2024 -

I was on my Mac this evening and randomly got a prompt that my Apple ID was locked for security reasons. I quickly checked my other Apple devices and everything was locked on those as well. I couldn't even use my AirPods.

I use 2FA and didn't see any unusual prompts or login attempts anywhere, so I contacted Apple support before going through the process of resetting my password — just to be safe. While on the phone, I was able to reset my password on my Mac, after which I recovered my account and got back into all of my devices.

However, Apple couldn't tell me why my Apple ID got locked. I asked if anyone attempted to access my account and the rep said they couldn't really see that. He then suggested that, if I was concerned about it, I could check my device list for unknown devices. So, I did and there was nothing there.

Any one else ever had their Apple ID randomly locked like this? I just want to make sure there's nothing else I should be doing on my end to secure my account.

Hey Reddit, I have been having extreme Apple Account issues for the last few months and was wondering if anyone knows what I should do. I've attached my email I sent to Apple, but once again have been redirected to the sample apple support website and help line that I've tried to fix this issue through time and time again.

Dear Apple Support Team,

I am reaching out regarding an urgent and ongoing issue with my Apple ID, which has been inoperable since October 17, 2024. On that day, I woke up to find all my Apple devices prompting me to re-enter my login information for security reasons. However, upon attempting to sign in, I was met with a message stating that my account was locked.

Since then, I have submitted four separate account recovery requests, all of which have failed. I have visited the Apple Store twice, spent over three hours on calls with Apple Support, and despite my persistence, I continue to receive the same response: “There is nothing we can do, just submit another recovery request.”

This issue has severely impacted my ability to use Apple’s services and devices:

  • I cannot download or update apps, including those I have paid for.

  • Find My, FaceTime, and iMessage on my Mac and iPad are unusable.

  • AirDrop and iCloud access are completely blocked, preventing me from accessing years of photos and important documents.

  • I am unable to cancel or manage in-app subscriptions linked to my Apple ID.

  • I cannot update software like Logic Pro X on my Mac.

  • I receive “re-sign into your Apple ID” prompts around 35 times per day, making my devices frustrating to use.

Most frustratingly, even performing a full reset of my devices is not an option, as I am required to re-enter my Apple ID password, which I am locked out of.

As someone who has invested heavily in Apple products, I am deeply disappointed with the lack of resolution. I am now at a point where I need escalation beyond standard support channels. I am requesting immediate assistance from a higher-level support specialist who can provide a direct and effective solution rather than another failed recovery attempt.

I know it has been some time since the issue started, but after all of my failed attempts to fix this, I gave up. I figured it would be more productive for me to get on with my life and just use my devices with the handicaps they now possess. But with all of my apps going out of date, my borderline inoperable phone, and the money I am losing with the subscriptions I bought through iCloud I no longer need, I thought it was long overdue to try and find a solution.

Please let me know the next steps to resolve this issue as soon as possible. I appreciate your immediate attention and look forward to hearing from you promptly. Attached is my email history surrounding this subject matter.

Best regards,

(My name)

Basically I need help on how to get it un-locked cause apple support keeps pulling the BS of sending me the entire ToS article expecting me to read that shit, off I gave it to ChatGPT to read and it states it’s either cause of

  1. Fraud( I have never committed fraud)

  2. Problems with parent account going down a the account of a Minor( My parents accounts are completely fine)

  3. They made a mistake( Probably)

So what can I do cause they said that I would need to re-buy apps I bought like Minecraft ( which would delete my worlds) and Fortnite

r/applehelp on Reddit: At my wits end with Apple - Apple ID locked for 6+ years with no support
February 15, 2023 -

15 years ago I got my first Apple product (Ipod Touch) and set up my Apple ID. My ID is ([email protected]). This is the same Apple ID on my current device (iPhone XS Max).

Every time I open my iPhone and multiple times throughout the day I am prompted with a message to Sign in to iCloud using my Apple ID. I know my password, so I enter it. I'm then prompted to verify my Apple ID in settings. I go to settings and am told my ID is locked and I need to verify my account.

Here is my issue: I do not have access to this email account anymore and I don't know the answers to my security questions. This was my original childhood email that has since been closed due to inactivity, and I don't know why I can't answer the questions correctly. I probably set these up 15 years ago back when I got that iPod touch and never wrote down the answers.

I've submitted an activation unlock request through Apple that showed proof of purchase but was denied and told they cannot share any more information and that I won't be allowed to submit a second request.

I cannot log in to my Apple ID. I cannot log out to add a different Apple ID. I cannot backup my phone to the iCloud account of my new Apple ID.

I am planning to buy a new device, but as soon as I try to backup from iCloud or backup from my computer, I'm going to be asked again to log in to my Apple ID. Apple has put their hands up saying there's nothing more they can do and I'm losing my mind.

Has anyone gone through this? I don't know what else to do. I guess my only option is to buy a new phone, use a new apple id, and just be OK with the fact that I will lose all the data on my phone (photos, contacts, videos, messages, etc)?

I've been a huge Apple fan for 15+ years but this is absolutely ridiculous at this point.

If you have two-factor authentication enabled, try using a trusted device like the iPhone to reset your password. This can sometimes bypass the lock issue. Otherwise, contacting Apple Support again. Be specific: Explain that you've waited over 40 hours without receiving any email and detail the steps you've already taken. Firmly ask if they can escalate your case or provide a direct line for further assistance. To avoid similar situations in the future, enable Two-Factor Authentication: This adds an extra layer of security and can help prevent unauthorized access. And keep Recovery information updated. Consider using a password manager app, or at the very least the info in a locked Apple Notes file. (Assuming you can remember the password for the Notes file.)

When you go to the iforgot.apple.com website and fill in the information what does the website say? The reason I ask is because when you first start the account recovery process you get a message that your information is being evaluated and you will be updated in 24 hours on the amount of time that it will take to get you account unlocked. So first is 24 hours then you get the full timer, typically 3 to 30 days depending on a lot of different variables. If you started account recovery on your iPhone make sure you are not using other Apple devices with your account already logged in as that can rest or stop the account recovery process. This is all spelled out here: https://support.apple.com/en-us/118574

I found a password of his that gets us past the account login screen, but after that it says the account is locked. I initiated steps to recover it using a phone number as well as an email. I’ve gotten emails back that state someone from Apple will call at a certain time but it has never happened.

This has been going on for weeks and I’m at a loss for how to proceed. Is there better way to get in touch with support at Apple or get a response?

So for some odd reason, I tried downloading an app and it asked me to put in my password (mind you I have not changed my password ever) and it said incorrect password, did it multiple times and now my account is locked for security reasons. I then went through the whole 24 hour waiting period only to find out my account is in recovery for the next 14 days. Waited the whole 14 days only for the problem not to be solved. Everytime I do forgot password and put in my right information it’s a recurring process of waiting another 14 days. I can’t access any of my music nor update my apps. This is complete bullshit for a billion dollar company. Apple support is no help either. Any suggestions?

You entered account recovery because you either didn’t have access to your trusted phone number, or you forgot your password. It says in the instructions for account recovery that Apple support cannot do anything to speed up your wait time. To avoid delays, turn off any device you’re signed in on.

While it’s unlikely to allow you to reset immediately, you want to start with attempting a password reset in: Settings > [name] > Password & Security > Change Password - if you’re prompted for the current password, enter a password you may have used. You may need to enter a password three times before seeing “Forgot Password” or “Reset Password”. Follow the steps & provide everything you can when asked. After initiating Account Recovery, you’ll receive an email within 72hrs confirming Account Recovery and providing the date & time you will be able to reset the password. On that day at that time, you’ll receive a text or phone call to your trusted number. If you don’t receive the text/call, go to https://iforgot.apple.com to enter your Apple ID & trusted number, then you’ll see instructions to reset your password unless Account Recovery has been cancelled. The recoverable window is limited, if you wait too long you’ll have to restart the process. Recoverable window is rumored to be around 3 - 8 hours (not a typo: three to eight hours). Account Recovery can be cancelled in the following ways: choosing “cancel account recovery” in the confirmation email using Apple devices signed in to your Apple ID, aside from the device used to initiate recovery through settings (this is why initiating recovery through https://iforgot.apple.com is not recommended) — turn other devices off such as iPads, Watches, MacBooks, other iPhones Allowing the recoverable window to expire Successfully signing in to your Apple ID Support cannot bypass nor expedite the process. They can only set expectations & make recommendations based on your unique circumstances. Anytime your password is reset, an email is sent to your Apple ID email address. May be worth searching “Apple” or “ [email protected] ” if you hoard emails, to refresh your memory. Hi,

Suddenly today my Apple ID seems to have locked, and I wound up using the iforgot.apple.com/unlock to request to reset it. I couldn't just change my password, I believe at one point I got the message it was locked for security reasons. I have to assume someone was attempting to crack my password?

After entering my contact info on the account, I'm told Apple will contact my email address after reviewing my request to access my account. It says this could take a day.

My question, how long does this process take for others who have done it? Being locked out is quite impactful right now. It's a bit unnerving.

Thanks in advance...

Is there a way to see everywhere that I'm signed in and what could be causing the lockout? Anyone have any other suggestions? I don't always need to log into my apple account every day but it's becoming a PITA to have to do this every single time I log in for something.

Is the password being used with multiple services? Do you have two factor authentication enabled for your Apple ID? If not, you should consider turning that on so that even if your password somehow gets compromised you have another layer of security to prevent unauthorized access. With 2FA you only need a code when signing in for the first time on a new device or on the web.

u/IsThisThingWorking , we went through a similar situation in our household with one of our AppleIds, pretty much the same as you described in your post. As you have seen, chaning the appleid email to a new one will NOT fix the issue. In the first order of things, you'll need to verify your AppleId online, so from a PC/Mac login go your apple id using a webbrowser: https://appleid.apple.com Once you've verified you can login online (aka. you account is NOT locked, etc), then continue. If you have more than one device then you'll need to do the following on ALL of your devices, one at the time, in which you are signed on under the same AppleID: close all apps that are running on the device Settings - Click on your AppleID and click on each of the following Options and make sure you can access each of the following in each of your devices: Name, Phone Numbers, Email (when you are done accessing that section, click back to go back to the main section in your appleid) Password and Security (when you are done accessing that section, click back to go back to the main section in your appleid) Payment and Shipment Make sure your payment method(s) are NOT listed in Red. If they are, then you'll have to re-register your payment method (because you've done it in the past, doesn't mean that you don't need to re-register those payment methods again). (when you are done accessing that section, click back to go back to the main section in your appleid) Subscriptions (when you are done accessing that section, click back to go back to the main section in your appleid) Media and Purchases (when you are done accessing that section, click back to go back to the main section in your appleid) Once you've completed the above, then go back to the mein 'Settings' section on your device. Repeat the above steps on each of your devices that you are signed on with the same appleid. Note: if you needed to re-register a payment method(s), then once you've re-registered on the first device, then the other devices may not need you to re-register those payment methods - just verify that they are NOT listed in red. Last but not least - open the Apple's own Music App (if you use the Podcast app and or the TV app, do the same on those). If after you've opened those apps you are NOT being prompted to neither enter your appleid-password, then you've successfully verified your appleid account on that device.

I received a text saying that I will receive instructions on june 10 to recover my apple id.... Should i wait? If they said June 10, then yes. Be patient, follow Apple's instructions, and you should be able to unlock your Apple ID after the waiting period Account recovery status is a security measure by Apple to prevent unauthorized access. The account recovery process is designed to verify it's really you trying to access the account, while preventing unauthorized access attempts. Apple enforces a waiting period as an anti-fraud measure to prevent unauthorized access attempts to accounts; the delay gives the legitimate account owner time to respond if the recovery request was not initiated by them. Also, Apple's systems need time to check the status of the account, any devices linked to it, and other security factors before allowing a password reset. To regain access to your locked Apple ID, you need to go through Apple's account recovery process, typically involving: Verifying your identity and account information on Apple's iForgot website or contacting Apple Support. Waiting for a set period of time before you can reset your password. Apple does this waiting period for security reasons. During this waiting period, Apple may send you a verification code via a trusted phone number or email associated with your Apple ID. Once you receive and enter the verification code, you can then reset your Apple ID password and regain access to your account. If you have set up an Account Recovery Contact beforehand, they can provide you with a 6-digit recovery code to help expedite the process of resetting your password. Be sure do this once you get back into your account in the event this happens again.
