The best thing about AirPods is how capable they are yet still easy to use. The last thing they need is a touch interface on the case that would serve no purpose other than to increase the price and add a point of failure. Imagine having to get a screen replacement because the display on your headphones broke.

I've bought multiple sets of Apple Airpods since they were first released into the world. There are definitely ways to improve what the earbuds have to offer. Putting touch screen controls on the case won't offer any improvement and will just lead to frustration.
