Trying to setup Time capsule
The "tower" shaped 802.11ac Time Capsules (introduced in 2013) do not have the ability to join another network as a simple wireless client. You can only connect it in wirelessly if the existing wireless router is another Apple AirPort Express/Extreme/Time Capsule. So if you want it connected into your home network, you'll have to do it via an Ethernet cable from the Time Capsule's WAN port (put the Time Capsule into bridge mode) into a LAN port on the existing router. If cabling it into your home network is not feasible, then you'll have to either let the Time Capsule act as a wireless router (that's not connected to anything) and you'll have to join it and thus have no Internet access while you're backing up, or you'll have to make a wired Ethernet connection between your MacBook and the Time Capsule. For best results, on your Mac, go into menu > System Preferences > Network > [Gear icon button] > Set service order… and drag Wi-Fi above Ethernet, so your Mac will know to use Wi-Fi for Internet access even when Ethernet is active. r/mac on Reddit: Trying to setup Time capsule
January 12, 2016 -
I got a new Time Capsule for Xmas and am having trouble setting it up. I do not want to use it as my wireless router, as I am in a house with roommates and am leaving to go overseas soon. Can someone please advise on how to set up my timecapsule to work on the current wireless network (router is not apple) or is there a way I can simply just make a connection between the timecapsule and my Macbook?
Thanks
