It definitely is extended warranty but depending the the user, it's not junk. If you're someone that has a history of breaking phones, this will definitely help keep costs down in the long run. For example, a cracked screen repair is $379 without AC+, $29 with. Since you'll use the phone for a number of years, battery replacements without AC+ are $99, and free with AC+ if the battery health is below 80%. If the phone has complete accidental damage that cannot be effectively repaired, a replacement unit without AC+ runs $699. With AC+, $99. AC+ itself is $199. With T&L it's $269. Say you break your screen once through the life of the phone, the total cost for you including the initial AC+ purchase would be $229, which still puts you ahead of the $379 if you don't have AC+. If you break it completely, the total cost to replace the unit will be $298 vs $699 without AC+. At the end of the day, if the $199 is worth it or not totally depends upon you and how you handle your phone. If you're prone to leave behind your phone in places, or live where phone theft is high, the Theft & Loss option might also fit. A T&L claim is $149, which again is better than being out of a $1.5K+ device. For some people its only a money grab. Which is a fair thought since their use-case does not necessarily need the extra protection. EDIT: I have AC+ monthly on my 15PM, which is valid as long I pay for it every month. What comes with it is peace of mind to use my phone without a case - its gorgeous, also if shit happens, its inexpensive to fix. The $199 for two years also has this option to convert it to monthly once the first two years are up, and it stays valid as long as you keep paying for it. More on reddit.com

I never put a case on my phone and usually have had to had it replaced at least once. So for me worth it. If you have a case on it don't bother. These new phones are solid. The only time you will actually break it if you manage to drop it flat on concrete or get stuck in a door closing. More on reddit.com

well...Title, I guess.
so I bought an iPhone 11 recently. I tend to go naked because well...especially this one switching back coming from android is nice and pretty and purple. I like looking at it, and I believe the phones were not DESIGNED so elegantly to be kept in a case. anyway....
this led me to a conversation with my girlfriend about getting applecare, since I can do that for the next 60 days (about 55 days at this point) or forever hold my peace...or pieces of my shattered iphone in the future.
SO SHE SAYS that applecare is a scam, its insurance for no reason, and if i were to drop my phone, or crack my apple watch, the insurance doesnt do anything and doesnt cover it. I looked on the website, it says it does.
someone with Applecare/Applecare +, give me the real skinny. Just trying to live my best life with a pretty phone.

If you like doubling your warranty and having screen shatters or other bad things being covered by a deductible instead of a whole new phone? Get it. If you don’t, don’t. Your girlfriend is wrong. I’ve used AC to replace a busted phone past the 1 year warranty a couple of times, and it was worth every penny.

It’s really up to you. AppleCare extends the basic warranty of the phone, if you have any general problems with it, and makes fixes as easy as a quick phone swap if the hardware has issues. AppleCare+, however, adds fixing any two accidents for a nominal fee. If you’re worried about the phone slipping out of your hand and the back shattering, it’s cheaper to have AppleCare+ than to pay for fixing it outright. If you’re careful with your phone, you might be alright without it.
