Is there anything stopping me from selecting the education pricing when buying a Mac even though I am not enrolled at an institution? Do they ever check at any point in the process? Is this uncouth of me to ask? Thanks
I am looking to buy a new macbook and ipad. I know that in apple educational store, the prices are $150 and $100 off respectively and they’ll give out i think $100 coupons for next purchase in apple store.
I thought this was a permanent thing and as long as i am a student, i can take advantage of this offer. So i was so shocked when i looked at the apple store to see that the educational promo (voucher and lower price) is ending on 9/30.
For those of you who are experienced with apple, do you know if they will replace this with other offer? Or is this “offer ending” legit and not just a way for them to force you to purchase now? All this time im always under the assumption that apple gives students discounts all the time.
Mod, please just delete if this is an inappropriate question to ask in this sub. If so, can you please let me know which is the correct sub
Hey guys! I’m planning of purchasing the new MacBook, I heard Apple does not check if you have student ID when ordering online from the USA Apple educational website, is it true ? I thought to order it online and pick it up at store, do they check something?
Can I get the educational discount and $150 gift card in an Apple Store or do I have to order online? My nearest Apple Store is 2-hours away but I’d prefer to go see the laptops in person and buy rather than wait for delivery.
i’m starting college this fall and am looking to buy a new macbook. i’ve already settled on the new 2025 macbook with the m4 chip. but i know they run sells before school, i’m just not sure when it starts and i could possibly get a pair of airpods (which im in need of because i just lost one). but would the discount be more than $100 off? i also know that apple has an eduction store online that i could just buy anytime, but it only takes $100 off. would it be worth it to go ahead and buy it now or wait for their school promo? thanks!
I don't know if I'm in the right subreddit because I don't comment a lot in reddit. But i'm just wondering for anyone that bought their Ipad pro's during last years student discount season (because i'm kinda confused right now).
Is Apples Education Store THE discount? Or do I wait till June for something like every article keeps telling me? Because I'm extremely confused on when I should buy. If it helps im Canadian and going to college the following autumn.
I plan on replacing my 2020 MacBook Pro since the performance is severely lacking. Looking at the 2025 MacBook Air since I need a new laptop for when I begin my master’s program in August 2025 but the educational offers did not seem like they were worth it for me. I already own AirPod pros and so does everyone in my family. I wouldn’t need a mouse, trackpad, or a keyboard because I wouldn’t be connecting it to any monitors and see no use of them if I’ll be using the laptop as is anyways. I’m really stuck on what to pick and was wondering if there is a way to just use an additional discount towards the purchase instead?
I know it’s probably a silly question but I don’t see a need in a free offer if there is any way to use the total of the additional offer towards a discount instead.
My brother is currently in Uni. Could I get him to buy me a Mac Mini (for the discount), and I pay him, or would the Mac be tied to require a student ID or similar for the Apple ID?
Basically I'm asking would it be ok if he bought it for me (and I paid him), to save £100-200? And what happens once he graduates?
So I'm planning a road trip to Portland and would like to order some products from Apple with the education pricing. I know it's easier to order online and have it delivered without verification but I plan to pick up the items in store to avoid taxes.
Will Apple just check my student ID or will they also ask to verify my uni email as well when I come to pick it up?
Also, would it be better to order online with the education pricing and just have someone else go in and pick it up for me? Assuming Apple won't be able to verify that I'm a student or not through whoever is picking up the items for me.
*UPDATE*: Picked up my ipad pro/2nd gen pencil and ended up purchasing air pods as well! Everything went smoothly and I even ordered an ipad pro for my mom as well with the education discount. The store I went to was huge, even bigger than the one I usually go to in Seattle or Costa Mesa so I feel they were more focused on pumping people in and out of the store.
tl;dr - Apple picks favorites in their retail store when they want to give discounts. Please exploit their Education discount and save $200 - Buy Mac Studio with M4 Max - Education - Apple
I bought my Mac Studio full price a week ago. I then recalled when I bought an Apple Watch the employee gave me a 10% discount since I worked at Microsoft (they proactively asked).
When calling customer support for a partial refund, they said I would have to return and computer and re-purchase through the third party employee store because different employers have different discounts for different items. I told them that the employee in store gave me 10% discount. The support agent said the retail stores can override the system and give discounts. We agreed it would probably be best to go into a store for the partial refund.
In store, the employee made it seem like things would work out. Then, after walking away and coming back, they told me they wouldn't be able to apply the discount and only accessories (e.g. keyboards, mice, and displays) are covered by company discounts.
I was kinda disgusted with how they were so inconsistent about this, so I returned my Mac Studio.
Looking online, you can just checkout as a guest from the Education Store (seemed to work with my .edu email but maybe not required), and get the original discount I wanted. Please exploit this as I probably won't re-buy, but would enjoy seeing apple lose some money to people already buying this.
Any idea what Apple asks for you to buy an Apple product with the students discount?
Hi I’m looking to buy a macbook pro soon and I’d like to take advantage of the student discount, even though I am not a student
Can I just buy and pay online and then pick up in the store? Will they verify any student document?
Any tips on that?
I live in Orlando, FL
I’m curious if anyone has had, or has heard of, a problem with doing this. Most people tend to say “just do it, they don’t check,” and I’m just curious if there are really no issues or they are just exceedingly rare. I personally haven’t heard one anecdote of this happening, but maybe someone has.
At least in the US, they don’t verify.
Edit: I guess I should specify what I mean by repercussion since some think I meant legal repercussions. Having your account flagged by Apple would be an example. Apple bricking your computer and forcing a return would be as unlikely as it is extreme, but again, I am unsure if any action at all has been taken. I am not worried about authorities or anyone that isn’t Apple.
Can I ask how you guys successfully ordered from the official Apple Store Online Philippines? I'm planning to get an M3 Max 16" base model. Most on-site Authorized Resellers (e.g. PMC) don't have them. The non-discounted price is 219,990. Education price is 200,990. I'm scared to proceed after getting a cancelled order and waiting for a refund.
I'll just share my experience nalang din to help others who are in the dark and not make the same mistakes I did:
We could save basically 20k going for the Education store price. Fortunately, my sibling has documents since they're currently working as a full-time instructor at a University. After making the order, I received an email to pass 2 documents (Faculty ID and Employment Letter) for the discount eligibility to some rpac Apple email or whatever.
In that email, I only just found out that the order name must be the same as the name in documents (Why not clearly state that in the form beforehand?). I passed the documents anyway hoping it would be considered.
Obviously it got cancelled. I just wish this was more explicitly stated that I can't order on their behalf beforehand. They said they would refund though. They also unfortunately didn't tell me what the exact reason why it was cancelled. Only that the documents "do not fulfill the eligibility requirements for Education Store pricing" and to Visit the "Apple Education Store Terms" for more info. Pretty sure this is a generic email template they have.
Pretty vague but I assume it's because of exactly what I said above, I made the mistake of using my iCloud account + inputting my own name on the first 2 fields of the order details. For the payment, my debit card and my name as well (although I think this was required to authorize the payment anyway).
Interestingly, even though the price was on the order page was 200,990 my bank account got charged 204,004.85. Is there some extra charge for cross-border fees?
Just have a few qualms with the process:
• Why do they state that they only charge after the "order has shipped" in their PH shop docs - They actually charge when the order is placed. (first stage)
• Refunds are usually slow. But man, I really think this unnecessary refund can be avoided if documents can be verified before charging the card, or successfully placing the order.
On a positive note:
• The refund for me was quick. They said it would be refunded in 3 days. Order was cancelled by them at 7:15am. Received the "Reversal" on my bank account at around 9:06 PM. Not even 24 hours! (I was stressed the whole day). I heard on some posts, it took them 15-30+ days.
• Thanks to BPI and Apple for this lol. I did not have to call BPI. or contact Apple (I couldn't, this was over the weekend which was outside call-center hours).
In any case, I need advice on how to proceed:
• Should I input my sibling's name on every detail?
• For the payment can it just be my name or does it have to my sibling's?
• For the iCloud account, should it be my sibling's as well?
Thanks in advance! I've been saving for this for months. Just wanna make sure I'm not making anymore mistakes.
Update: Received it on March 11. Ordered on March 4. Which means delivered in 7 days. That's crazy! Expected was March 25.
Hi!
Next month, will be traveling to the USA to visit some parents. Taking the opportunity to go there, will be upgrading my M1 Air MacBook into the M4 Air.
I saw on Apple Store that there is a student discount there.
My question is: Is this discount from any university worldwide? Like, I have my UNiDAYS account verified, but the university is from Brazil. Is this enough to get the students discount?
I've been a PC guy for 30+ years... I have used stuff like GIMP, Photoshop, etc. for images, and basic things like OpenShot for video editing... all hobbyist kind of stuff not pro
the apple EDU pricing looks halfway decent for $199 and you get:
Final Cut Pro (video editing)
Logic Pro (music editing)
Motion (fun stuff to add to Final Cut Pro)
Compressor (hmm support for HDR, HEVC, 360° video, and MXF output)
and MainStage (additional stuff for Logic Pro)
honestly not sure if I'd do any Logic Pro/Mainstage stuff - but Final Cut Pro & Motion may be fun - obviously Compressor give output flexibility
but there's no imaging stuff here, just video/audio - seems like a gap for me

what are preferred graphics? just the usual PS Pro? etc?
