What is Reddit's honest opinion of Apple computers (Specifically the Macbook/Macbook pro)?
I think people who put macs down can be broken down into the following categories which can be mixed and matched: Stupid Reasons (Notice that many of these could be said about Microsoft haters as well): People who feel insecure People who have never used a mac for an extended amount of time Think it's cool to bad mouth apple Not what they "grew up" with Their friends/family don't like Apple either Want to feel superior and let other people know about their superiority. Feels "different" and "unfamiliar" compared to Windows Semi-Legitimate: Annoyed by arrogant Mac fanboys who like to tout what they believe is a superior technical choice, giving the company a negative image. Overly sensitive to Apple's marketing campaigns Legitimate Reasons: Overpriced Walled-Garden Secretive release schedules resulting in people getting screwed over with recent purchases (PowerPC to Intel switch) Smaller selection of software available (including games) Disagree with Apple's business practices (itunes copy protection, iphone app store) can't customize lack of cheap hardware upgrades selective hardware support I'm a former Powerbook Titanium owner, and personally I believe the computing experience on OS X is great (I think OS 9 is terrible). But I think that's a personal preference thing. It's true that there are comprises that have to be made, like software selection, cheap hardware, customization, etc... The main thing for me was that in over 2+ years of use my powerbook only crashed on me 4 total times, whereas my Windows XP desktop would crash/slow to a crawl at least once a month. I've also never had to reinstall the operating system. But since then, I think Windows has improved a lot in terms of stability and in usability as well. I haven't owned a Mac in years because I think they are overpriced. I do think they make well designed quality hardware and software, but I'm not willing to pay such a significant premium because I just don't care that much. I'm satisfied with using Ubuntu and Windows Vista (I know people like to bash vista too, but I don't think it's that bad either.). More on reddit.com

Do NOT Buy The M1 MacBook Pro. Here’s Why:
Some big outliers in this post. MacBook Pro speakers being bad? Lmao. Even Linus accepts they’re excellent for a laptop. And the trackpad? Again, the vast majority accept it’s the best on the market by far. More on reddit.com

Are MacBooks worth it?

I own a 2018 13' macbook pro, first apple PC I had.

Pros:

  • The screen and sound are really nice. I love to program in this PC instead of my main one, it feels nicer on the eyes

  • macOS is really nice. I had to adapt a bit but I really like it. In my honest opinion it's not more stable than Windows 10 like a lot of people like to claim, but it's fast, I almost never shut it down (I just close and open the lid, it works perfectly) and it's smooth.

  • It's light and thin (however, this has a huge disadvantage imo, more below), it's a pick up and go laptop, easy to bring anywhere

  • The build is really good and feels nice to touch.

  • The battery life is the best thing about this thing. It lasts a long time!

  • It supports dual boot with Windows. I prefer to use a virtual machine, but this is neat.

Depends on your preferences:

  • the keyboard, it's a either you love or hate it kind of thing. Personally I got used to it and it feels fast to type, the travel is minimal.

  • Touchbar. It's also like the keyboard, you'll love it or hate it. I got used to it and use it for things like to control the volume and light, and to refresh Chrome sometimes, but not really much else.

  • Apple Logo. It's a status laptop and some of your money goes to have that logo. Let's not beat around the bush. Some people like to have a mac because of the logo, I personally don't care for it. The only reason I got this laptop is because I needed a new laptop and a machine that supported macOS

Cons:

  • It's too thin for its own good. I feel that a Pro computer shouldn't care THAT much about aesthetics and silence. Macbooks Pros lately do not offer the same performance as a PC with similar specs, because Apple crammed everything so close and together. It heats up easily if you're not idling and it will throttle itself just as easily.

  • It's not cheap to fix these laptops if you need to repair them after the warranty, sometimes you can just get a macbook air or a macbook mini for the price of repairing your macbook pro

They are expensive laptops imo, but they're good. However, you can also get just as good PC's and perhaps cheaper. Idk your circumstances but if you're tight with money, you probably shouldn't get such an expensive laptop? Especially if you don't have a strong reason to and if your Surface still works.
