I’m looking for advice/input on which Magic Keyboard with Touch ID I should get for my wife. She works in FinTech and asked for a new keyboard for Christmas. I’ve been trying to do research, but am really unsure which version to go with, since they seem to be nearly identical except for the cable connection.
Her current Apple Keyboard doesn’t have Touch ID, and I know that that’s her biggest reason for wanting a new keyboard. The current one uses a lightning cable. Her MacBook Pro has a USB-C connection. Costco currently has an excellent deal on the 2022 model, so just trying to figure out which one to get.
FWIW, her phone still uses a lightning cable, as do all of her AirPods (except the Max). So we still have multiple lightning cables in our house.

Effectively there is no difference between the two keyboards, except the connector. Once it is setup (by plugging it in to the computer), the only time you need to plug it in is to charge. If she already has USB-C to Lightning cables, you will be fine. (I think the keyboard comes with one, but don't remember if it is USB-C or USB-A to Lightning). If you do go with the USB-C version, be aware that the keyboard only fully works with the latest version of macOS (15.1 or 15.1.1). For inexplicable reason, Apple did not include any drivers in the latest Ventura (13.7.1) or Sonoma (14.7.1). Without the drivers, the keyboard has only basic functionality. It is unclear if Apple will add the drivers in the next updates (13.7.2 & 14.7.2).
