Ifixit has a note/disclaimer that states replacing the screen disables the NFC antenna. Mine will not load wallet onto watch as well. Looking at a video where they pried off the old NFC assembly and reinstalled it on the new screen to fix this issue. I think this is what Ifixit means by “no easy fix”….but is fixable but would void new screen warranty. Haven’t tried it, as this issue was not a deal breaker for me. February 27, 2018 - It does not work with Series 3 as of right now. ... I have the same problem. I cannot consistently countdown been able to press the side button twice to bring up Apple Pay/wallet. When it doesn’t work it’s just easier to reach for my phone which defeats the Purpose of using my watch for Apple Pay. I have added WAllen to my favorites on the Dock, so that I can at least pull it up quicker manually.

So Apple engineers have said it may be the Apple Pay sensor and after failing to run a diagnostic 2-3 times decided it needed returning. So back to my trusty Series 2 Watch now as a backup that has worked flawlessly until I get mine back.

I updated to OS 11, and my Apple Pay stopped working. I can see my payment card on my screen but it does not interact with the tap function of the cash register.
I double tap the side to display the card - it says to "Hold Near Reader" and nothing happens when I hold it near the reader.
I've searched online for a solution and I'm only finding information for the card not being loaded into Wallet - my card is there. Any thoughts on how to fix this?

September 5, 2023 - We recommend turning it off, waiting 15 or so seconds, and then turning it back on. Try using a different passcode and see if that makes a difference. Apple Pay does not work on your Apple Watch if you have the Passcode turned off.

So... I bought an used Apple Watch Series 3 and the watch is perfect, but, the Wallet don't add cards to be used for Apple Pay.
When I try to add an card, this error appears: "Could not set up Apple Pay. An error occurred while setting up Apple Pay.*".*In my original language (Brazilian Portuguese): Não Pôde Configurar o Apple Pay. Ocorreu um erro durante a configuração do Apple Pay.
The Apple Care support don't know why this is happening and how to fix that. They think that "maybe" is a hardware problem. Conclusion: they can't and don't know how to help me.
(I already did the unpair, system restore... Nothing works).
Anyone know how can I fix that problem? 😥

With one of my cards I ran into that when I didn’t have the bank app installed and logged in on my phone. Not sure how that has anything to do with it, but maybe try that?

Are you trying to add directly in the watch app? If so, is the card already added to the wallet on your phone? If not try do that first so the cards are in both wallets.

Since the stable release on Monday I have the same issue, it doesn't show "Hold Near Reader" and I have to tap the card a few times for it to appear, when I hold it near the reader then the terminal throws a "card read error". I hope they fix this quick.

My card is fine, and it works when I use my iPhone to pay immediately afterwards, so it's just the watch that's getting the error. And it's happened at multiple stores.
