USB-C costs around 82usd (when converted here in my country) while 2nd Gen is around 148usd. I don't see myself ever doing arts. Gonna use this more on note taking and playing casual games. I also heard that regardless, you can't use them while charging so in terms of hassles, it's just that there's an extra step of plugging to charge.
Should I get USB-C instead or there's more benefits of getting 2nd gen aside from wireless charging and art related stuff? Or should I just get a non-apple pencil?
My friend just got an iPad mini 6th gen and I’m wondering which Apple Pencil would be best suited for that model.
From my understanding the 2 has more functionality over the USB-C Pencil, but I don’t know whether those certain functions are worth it due to limitations I am not considering when using the iPad model she has vs something like an Pad Pro model.
Any advice for which to get and why?

Which would be better for an Ipad Pro 6th Gen. The USB C or the apple pencil 2?
Hey y’all. I have an M2 11 inch iPad Air. I’ve had it for a month now and really love it. I did not buy an Apple Pencil with it because I haven’t needed one. That’s changed as of this month as I’ve got various trainings coming up for work and will be needing to take notes.
I don’t draw or sketch, the pencil would mainly be used for note taking. I do like the convenience of the wireless charging on the pro but the rest of the features don’t really matter to me. Those of you that decided between these 2 pencils is the USB C pencil enough for note taking or is the pro worth the extra cost?
iPad Pro 11” (M1 chip) user here So I’m looking for getting an Apple Pencil, I’ve been using a super cheap third party pencil but it has some delay while writing.
I’ll use it mostly for taking notes, but every now and then I like to draw, what do you guys recommend?
Which one is better because I’m starting to get into DA and I’m about to buy an IPad but I don’t know which Apple Pencil to get because one has more features than the other but one is cheaper and basically does the same thing. Is there like any benefits for getting the Pencil pro or should i just get the USB C? Please lmk 🙏🏾
Hello, I am a student and I am studying for Engineering.
I write a of notes in a lot of diffrent subject and it is getting to be a bit too much with all the note books I am carrying. Sooooo I bought a used Ipad pro gen 5 for 200 $ and now I want to get a pencil.
I have done my research but I feel like I am missing the user experience.
I can afford both without it leaving me broke untill the end of the month.
Students/user of this sub, What is more practical for someone that writes a lot of math :D!?
! ! Apple pencil gen 2 or USB c ! !
(Sry about my English skills, it is my third language and least practiced)
Because I want to buy one and I will be happy to here your opinion about it. I am also want to know about battery life!
I don't take (many) notes and am not an artist, but I find a stylus helpful. Is it worth paying for the original Apple Pencil (USB-C)? This is for an iPad 10. Is anyone here using third-party alternatives? What do you think about that?
EDIT: I bought the EIP Pencil 2. I think I got a great deal for 1/3 of the price of the USB-C Apple Pencil.
Well alter finding out my Apple Pencil 1.0 is useless now since I didn’t keep it charged all the time I decided to upgrade my iPad to the latest version and was looking into the Apple pencil pro.
However I’ve seen online that many people have an issue where the Apple Pencil drains their iPad since Apple recommends it be attached at all times.
I really like the features that the pro provides but I don’t want it to drain my iPad battery all the time or have to worry about micro managing when I charge it so it doesn’t die out like my 1.0 did.
Should I just get the USB-C one then?
Really don’t get why Apple didn’t add usb c charging to every pen tbh
It was at the beginning of a Friday history class when I realized my Apple Pencil usb-c wasn’t connected to my iPad Air. But it was working an hour ago at home! My measly class announcement “Does anyone have usb-c to usb-c charger?” met with crickets, as I met the realization that I should get an Apple Pencil pro so that this doesn’t happen again. I thought I was mistaken about my initial decision to buy the usb-c. So I ordered the pro.
notability/goodnotes aren’t well optimized for the features. The color options don’t open up on notability when you squeeze or double tap, when I want to change colors instantly. Instead, the eraser opens up, when the double tap can already do that. For goodnotes, the color options don’t open up directly, only the tool options. Changing the colors end up taking more time than the usual way, so it doesn’t save you time for when you take notes during a fast-paced class.
The pen on notability apparently responds to pressure sensitivity, which is terrible for taking notes, because I don’t apply more/less pressure on a consistent basis. Now, all of my notes look different from each other due to different levels of pressure I unknowing apply! It was so even and coherent with my usb-c pencil. Now I have to waste even more time fixing my handwriting that looks too thick/thin, it’s so distracting! I don’t even know if I can turn this sensitivity thing off.
I don’t need to charge it now, but now I can’t help but worry that I’m reducing my iPad‘s battery capacity overtime. I was fine charging my pencil once a few days.
Both pencils can fit my needs if I adjust to them, but I already had the usb-c pencil, so it was a waste to buy the pro. I could’ve bought a separate usb-c to usb-c connector to avoid the connection loss situation.
I did wrong.
Aside from USB-C (obviously), are the pencils the same thing? I heard somewhere that the new USB-C version doesn't support pressure sensitivity and all that. I have an iPad 10 so sadly I can't get the Pencil 2
I have an iPad Pro, but I don’t have an artistic bone in my body.. I will never use the pencil for art
It will be used for not taking at work …so it will get some used but mostly checking boxes taking those things like that ..
It’s a $40 difference in price which is not a lot of money to me so money is not really an issue
For the most part pencil would live in my bag, and I will only attach it when I’m using it
I was just gonna get the Apple Pencil Pro because I want the best but I’m reading about how it drains the iPad battery like most people batteries is super super important to me so that scare me away a little bit
I recently picked up a used IPad Air 4 from a family member for cheap and am looking to add a Pencil. I have a 1st Gen Pencil that I use with an iPad Mini 5 but I know that isn’t compatible. I’ve checked Apple’s site and it appears my Air 4 is compatible with two different Pencil versions so I’m trying to determine what the difference is. It seems the USB-C one charges similar to my Gen 1 by plugging it into the iPad and the Gen 2 charges magnetically? Is that the only difference? Also I noticed a few posts here that indicated M2 iPads did not work with Pencil Gen 2? Can anyone confirm? Which one would you get and why?
My Apple Pencil just crapped out on me and I’m Wondering if I should buy a used Apple Pencil 2nd gen or a usb C Apple Pencil does the USBC have any features that the 2nd gen doesn’t
