Best Buy refurbished and Apple refurbished are not the same thing. Best Buy is all in-house. They refurbish it themselves and provide the warranty themselves. Apple refurbished is done by Apple and comes with the same Apple warranty that new Apple products come with. Apple's refurbished program is very highly regarded. Best Buy may be hit or miss.

No. I just tried to buy AppleCare for a refurbished Apple Macbook that I bought last month at Best Buy and was told that they do not offer AppleCare on certified refurbished.

You can only get AppleCare if you buy the product from Apple Store. They have the option when you purchase from them. Unfortunately this means Best Buy doesn’t offer AppleCare. Instead they have geek squad. I highly recommend AppleCare over geek squad.
