okay, so obviously from the title, i am a college student looking to get money knocked off a new phone bc mine is damn near broken.

my question is: to use said discount, does my carrier have to be one of the big four? i am still on my parents cricket plan and really don’t wanna open my own when i’m about to be going to school.

i just don’t know if i can go in store and maybe select cricket instead?

let me know!!! 💖

r/ipad on Reddit: Can I avail student discount through my friend's college ID to buy Apple Products? How does that work/affect my ownership of the product? (posting from India)

Hey there! I'm an illustrator, and I'm currently gearing up for PhD entrance exams after wrapping up my Masters. I freelance in proofreading and graphic design. Back in college, I couldn't really afford even student discounts, but now I've got some savings, and I'm eyeing an iPad in the next couple of months. I've decided to skip getting a Macbook from the Apple Store because retailers seem to have better deals. Plus, iPads come with free pencil, which is a fantastic bonus. I'm planning to take the EMI route to save my savings from taking a big hit.

Now, my buddy's in grad school, and they've got this college ID working great with Unidays. I used their info to check out the offer prices. Here's the thing – it looks like to order from the Apple Store online, you need to create an Apple ID, which neither of us has done yet. So, here are my questions: Can I make an Apple ID in my name, use it to order, and snag the offer using my friend's college details? Does it have to be a relative doing this, or does it work only if both the Apple ID and college ID belong to the same person (or a relative)? College mail ID is no good for creating an Apple ID since it expires when the course is over. So, we're technically talking about using two IDs. Any potential loopholes there?

Suppose I end up purchasing the product using my friend's Apple ID and college ID. How would that affect my ownership of the product? Can I switch over to my own Apple ID once I receive the order, or are there other hiccups down the road?

Dealbreaker question: Can I use my card to make the purchase after the discount with my friends ID right?

The discount I'm getting for the iPad Air 5 is a whopping 20K less than the market's lowest rate, and it comes with a free 2nd Gen Pencil(priced 10K). I'm definitely going for it. Just want to be clear on any other considerations beyond the price tag.

I can't seem to find any definitive answers about the student discount online. I am ordering a MacBook pro for my wife who went back to school at University. I made it all the way to the "Place your order" button and it hasn't asked for the student email address? Am I missing something here? Thanks :-)

September 24, 2025 - Initially they slipped through the cracks allowing the discount to be applied to them at checkout, but this appears to have been stopped. Officially, Apple products are excluded from the offer. ... I have a .edu email because of where I work, but if I remember originally they (Target) wanted a class schedule or student ID.

June 8, 2025 - If you have you student ID even if expired it still should be ok ... Buy online and ship or pick up in store. Continue this thread ... I just bought (and returned) an iPad mini and bought it using the educational discount, which anyone could do online tbh, at least there’s that

After being told by a puzzled Apple Store worker that I actually couldn’t get a student discount (she actually offered at first) on the case I wanted to buy, I checked the website with my academic status.

nothing

iPhone cases that were once £36, now £39. Apple Watch straps that were once £45, now £49.

This goes on and on. Why are Apple continuing to nix some of their most customer friendly services?

(I'm from the United States, so idk if this applies to anywhere else)

So, apple has this thing called an "education store" on their websites where you buy Apple products on a discount if you are a student.

what they don't tell you is that they do not verify if you are a student, they just assume that you are.

for example:

iPad Air on their normal website: 599$

vs

iPad air on their "education store": 549$ (you saved 50 dollars)

Type: "Apple education store" on Google and you'll find it.

Hello Apple community, this is a question for people who have friends/family as Apple employees or are Apple employees themself.

Currently with student discount, I see you can get about 10% off and a $150 giftcard with included while buying the new iPad in Canada. Is this the best discount/savings you can get or is the Apple Employee discount better? Can you use both discount offers or just one? Any insight would be greatly appreciated! I have a few friends that work for Apple and wanted to see what was the best course of action for myself. Thanks!
