Newegg has the last generation time capsule on sale for $160. While I don't need one, it would make things a bit more convenient. What I would be most looking forward to is freeing the space from my MacBook Air and storing 720p videos on the drive and watching them over my network.
Is this product fast enough to do that well?

I had one. Read speed was fine, I could watch videos no issue. But write speed over wifi wasn't that great. I would suggest to directly connect when writing to it and then it would be fine to wifi videos.

Hey there!
Yesterday I was checking on Vinted whether there was something cool from apple for cheap-ish when I found a 2013 2TB Airport time capsule for 100-120€ , and watching some review from when it was released i find it very interesting, since it could theoretically work as a NAS, but I'm worried that it might not communicate with my 2015 MacBook Pro (running Monterey).
Also, I managed to find the Airport Utility app for iPhone working (and on win 10 as well) but on Monterey isn't supported (or at least it doesn't finish to install).
My doubt now is, is it worth it to buy and try to tinker with it or should I pass?

I use 4 of them in my home. They are used as Apple intended - as Time Machine backup destinations. They work great and fully support my 300 Mbps ISP services.

They were such a nice product, but at this point it's very dated. The internal drive could be replaced (since the internal would be past it's reliable lifespan at this point), but they aren't receiving updates/patches. So old drive, old wifi tech, and no security patches = bad idea.

Holding the option key while clicking on Time Capsule didn't work for meNor will it work for anyone else as well. Please check the instructions above again. They said to......Hold the option key while double-clicking on the Time Capsule.Works with 7.7.8, 7.6.8, and on down to 7.6.1.

Holding the option key while clicking on Time Capsule didn't work for me. However, if I select the Time Capsule in the initial diagram it shows the summary page. Hovering the mouse over the title gives extra information including the model number. I guess something has changed. This is with version 7.7.8 of the firmware.
