r/appletv on Reddit: Apple TV 4k Ethernet issues
October 13, 2022 -

I have an issue where the internet drops when I plug the Ethernet in. As soon as I disconnect the Ethernet cable, the internet comes back on.

Network settings show the Ethernet is connected (ruling out port failure)

The Ethernet cable works in other devices (ruling out cable failure)

I have power-cycled my router, switch, ATV and modem.

Any ideas about what this could be or how I can troubleshoot this, please?

r/appletv on Reddit: Apple TV 4K Ethernet issue
March 28, 2024 -

Hello! I have an Apple TV 4K 3rd gen that's giving me some serious issues with the Ethernet connection. I currently have it set up with a static IP and set to go to my adguard home for DNS. Typically it works fine, and has for months, but all of a sudden about a month ago it started to just stop working mid stream. I could solve it with a full restart but it's getting more frequent.

Essentially what it is doing is acting as if it's not connected. Apps say there's no internet but the network still shows as connected, and I'm unable to ping the Apple TV from any device.

Troubleshooting attempted so far:

  1. New Ethernet cable

  2. Changing IP from static to DHCP

  3. Plugging Ethernet into a new port on the switch

  4. Plugging Ethernet directly to router

  5. Plugging Ethernet into different switch

  6. Plugging Ethernet into different router

  7. Connecting device via Wi-Fi

The issue is resolved when the device is on Wi-Fi, even with the same IP and DNS settings. As you can see I've tried just about everything, and nothing is working. I've seen there are a lot of similar posts, but nothing with a definitive fix. If anyone has any ideas I'd love to hear them!

Apple TV issues when using ethernet- just… - Apple Community
Apple TV could not load video Every time I try to see Bad Monkey on my new LG TV, I get the message Couldn't Load Video, Check your Internet connection, then try again. And My connection is an Ethernet cable to my wife router, which is ethernet connected to my modem. I never had this issue with my old LG TV. All the other apps work fine.

r/appletv on Reddit: Ethernet connection problems
June 18, 2024 -

I want to connect my Apple TV via Ethernet. I have Ethernet outlets throughout my home so it was pretty simple to connect a cable from the outlet to the Apple TV. But after doing this I don’t seem to have internet connection. Is there an additional step to this I’m missing? I’ve tried restarting the Apple TV and my modem/router without any luck.

Going into network setting it says Ethernet Connected. It is also showing my IP address, Ethernet address, and Subnet Mask number. Going further, both Configure IP and Configure DNS are set to Automatic. Would all this not indicate that I am connected to Ethernet? So why no internet?

Edit: thanks for the comments. I continued to troubleshoot and figured out the issue. It was not the Apple TV. It was not connected via Ethernet. I had to move around some network connections in my main panel and my modem/router.

r/appletv on Reddit: Apple TV on ethernet, iPhone remote not working
July 16, 2024 -

My Apple TV 4K (2nd Gen) is connected with ethernet. Now I am not able to use my iPhone remote control app which is obviously on WiFi. I can use the iPhone remote app only when Apple TV is connected via same WiFi. My tvOS & iOS are updated on 18.1 versions. I’ve already tried rebooting, unpairing & repairing iPhone with Apple TV 4K. Any help is greatly appreciated

October 20, 2024 - I have decided to use one of my HomePods as the home hub instead and keep the Apple TV on Ethernet. More replies ... Thanks. The problem seems to be with my router, it is blocking multicast (mDNS specifically) between the wired and wireless sections. More replies ... My wired one can work as a hub, but I do use a different ATV dedicated only as a hub.

Apple TV Ethernet connection not working - Apple Community
February 17, 2018 - Plugged the lan cable into Apple TV and router. Connect to Wi-Fi now and no disconnecting. Working now via Wi-Fi. What troubles me is that the led that shows on the router that the lan is connected does not light up. I tested the port with my ps3 and it works fine. Please help 9638 5 ... I bought three 4K AppleTVs and their iOS version out of the box was 11.1. I configured the first AppleTV 4K how I wanted it, was attached to Ethernet just fine and as my last step, I ran the updater with took the AppleTV to 11.2.5.

Apple TV 4K won't connect via Ethernet, o… - Apple Community
Even if I have it forget my wifi connection and restart, it will not recognize the Ethernet is plugged in. When it does connect, it correctly sees the network, gets an IP address, sees the right DNSs so it seems that it should be fine, but while it can connect to the router, it won't connect to the internet so Netflix, YouTube, App Store, anything that requires internet, won't work/connect.

r/appletv on Reddit: Poor Ethernet Performance Apple TV 4K 128GB
December 22, 2024 -

I hard wire to Ethernet every chance I get and have no issues with any other devices in my house but I was noticing constant errors and buffering when streaming video from various apps on the new Apple TV. Then I started getting random disconnect notifications from cameras tied into HomeKit. They are perfectly fine in the manufacturer’s app and reachable outside of HomeKit when this happens. Also a similar issue with Ecobee devices losing contact with HomeKit. My PC, PS5, and Xbox are hardwired to the same switch connected to my router and consistently getting 600+ Mbps download.

Did a speedtest on Ethernet and was only seeing max 92 Mbps on the Apple TV and over 360 on WiFi. Haven’t had it running on WiFi long enough to determine if that’s the fix action for my intermittent issues but I definitely found the speedtest results disappointing. My Ecobee stuff immediately started working in the Home app once I switched to WiFi so that’s a good sign. Previously, I had to disconnect and re-add it to HomeKit.

r/appletv on Reddit: Ethernet hookup = loss of internet
February 14, 2024 -

I've seen a few old posts regarding ethernet port hookup causing problems to internet.

But I'm wondering if someone can explain to me why this would happen all of the sudden, when i've had the apple tv for months and havent had an issue before with ethernet hookup.

Was beginning to think it was my 5-year-old or so modem/router netgear. But after a lot of troubleshooting, I realized I would reset the modem and the internet would work just fine on all devices, until I turn on apple tv and immediately I lose internet access.

r/Ubiquiti on Reddit: Apple TVs wont connect via ethernet
September 21, 2025 -

Hi everyone. I'm relatively new to the ubiquity world and a newb in general when it comes to network and the lingo. I have a couple Apple TVs that suddenly show "no connection" via ethernet. I'm running a UDM7 to a USW Pro max 24. I know it's not the cable because I can plug in my xbox to that same cable and port and it works fine. I've have other ATVs in the house that work fine (those might be newer models if that matters). The two that are not working show as disconnecting on different days about 2 weeks ago. I'm 99% sure I wasn't messing with any settings those days. Most settings are default, I have not set up anything fancy like multiple networks. The Wifi connection seems to work fine on the ATVs if I switch that. They both definitely worked at one point, and I can see the device name on the port but it is grayed out with a "last seen..." on hover.

I see other people asking the same question on the internet over the past year or so but cant seem to find a solution. Can anyone recommend some things I can try?

Things I've tried:

- Restarting everything (router, switch, ATV)

- Different Cables

- Different ports on the switch, and a different Ubiquity switch altogether

- Switching linking speed from "auto" to "1gps" (found that in another post)

- Ading a "dumb" switch between the USW and the Apple TV. The port on the USW lights up (it doesn't if connected directly to the ATV), but I still don't get internet.

Thanks

Apple TV 4K ethernet port failure - Apple Community
Fifty people have had this issue - mine happened suddenly just like the others. Suddenly ethernet data stream is not recognized by the Apple TV 4K. After years of service and no change to set-up. The 4k sees ethernet and connects - but states that " it needs to be connected to the internet.
