You can use A/C cable if you want to, your stuck at 12w as Apple doesn't support QC3.0 or other fast charging standards on USB A. Using a C/C adapter you can go higher due to Power Delivery. Swapping out all panels to usb c is one hell of a cost for the already in place USB A outlets, where as giving you a C/C cable is way easier. Its been the standard for years on everything from Shavers to Phones. More on reddit.com

The new iphone comes with a USB C to lightning cable but no brick.
That's the main issue, lightning to USB-C instead of C to C. Every MacBook and the iPad Air+Pro are USB-C yet they can't make the iPhone USB-C. I get their reasoning as many people are invested in lightning, but at least having the iPhone Pro models with C could have been very doable. I wanted an iOS phone but it would be the ONLY device I have that needs its own cable if I bought it. My money will continue to go to Android. More on reddit.com

Is it correct that the new charging standard is USB C to C or is this just Apple's way of forcing customers to buy new charging adapters and wall sockets?
"All" charge ports are USB A (hotel rooms, planes, traines, wall sockets etc) so why isn't a USB C to A cable being provided instead of an USB C to C?

No PD (power delivery) spec over USB A as far as I know. Generally charge power and times will be much better on USB C rather than USB A. Apple would probably take a lot more flack for providing a cable that didn’t support a bunch of the newer charging specs and features.
