40 vs 44 - what made you choose which one and why? Can’t decide...
44 here. But that’s just what fit my wrist best. I have wide wrists to the point where I can’t even wear sports bands without first spending time to stretch them out a little bit and even then it only fits on the 2nd hole.
As far as battery goes, might be a bigger battery on the 44 but that’s for the bigger screen. If you’re leaning toward the 40 then get the 40; you’re not missing out on much.
If you really want extra text then you can shrink the text size on the watch. A watch that might be too big for your wrist is not worth an extra line or line and a half of text at the end of the day. You won’t be watching videos on it and even with texts, you’ll likely not even notice scrolling to read an entire text. It’ll just be second nature to you. No app I use has all the information fit the screen so you’ll likely be scrolling no matter what

I have 170mm wrist too and have the 40mm version. In my opinion it looks perfectly balanced.

Looking to get my first Apple Watch (either S4 or S5 - need the EKG feature) and I cannot decide on size. I’ve tried on both in person a few times. I like the fit of the 40 and the screen size of the 44. Having the extra text on screen seems like it might be really helpful but I’m wondering how much difference it makes in real work situations. I’ve also heard that battery life should be better on the 44 though one post on here that I found when searching for this said that battery life was quite similar.
So, what size did you choose and what swayed you? Was it just fit? Was it the extra screen real estate? Has the screen of whichever one you chose been as you had hoped? Do you feel that the extra size makes any real world/day to day life difference? Other than more text, what other benefits does the larger screen size offer? Complications are the same on both, right? What about your experience with battery life? I don’t want to feel like I’m missing out on better battery life, either.
I thought my spouse would immediately agree that the 40 looked better on me, with small wrists but he honestly thought either one looked about equal and I can see what he means. I could do either but I’m not sure which one I’ll be happiest with. I guess I sort of lean towards the 40 but I feel like I’ll be missing out on the extra screen and a battery life. I’d love to hear any thoughts you could share. Thanks so much in advance!

I think it should really fit to your wrist. I have a very thin wrist and therefore I have a 40 as a 44 would look ridiculously. But yes, battery is better with the bigger version.
My first watch was an S2 42mm, followed by an S3 42mm, and then an SE2 44mm. The S2 and S3 felt like just the right size, but the SE 44mm always felt just a little too big for me. I had tried the SE 40mm at the time, but it felt far too small. Now, the S10 42mm shares the exact dimensions of the Series 1/2/3 42mm but matches the screen size of the 44mm Series 4/5/6/SE(2). It finally feels like the perfect size again, and usability is unaffected with how much the screen has grown! As an added bonus my new S10 is 12.5% lighter weighing in at 64g, SE 72g, both with official milanese loop bands. Only downside was having to rebuy the same band in the smaller connector size.
