Hey all, I’m new to Apple and am looking at getting an Apple Watch hopefully on Boxing Day. Longevity wise should I get the 8 or SE2? I’d like it to not be redundant in 3 years, I’m just not sure I can justify the $500+ for the 8. TIA!

Hi all
I've decided to take the plunge and get an Apple Watch. I've always worn automatic watches but for a number of reasons I feel like the time is right to make the switch into a more modern option.
My question in, what are people's thoughts on the SE (2nd gen) vs the series 8? I'm in the UK so the price difference is around £160.
I'm a man so the menstrual cycle tech isn't much good to me and I'm not particularly bothered about the dust resistance or the ECG tech.
I'll wear the watch every day for work (I spend a lot of time with clients so I think it'll be easier than checking my iPhone for notifications etc) and I run a lot so I'm hoping it will be useful in terms of the sleep tracking, heart rate monitoring and during actual 3+ hour runs etc.
I suppose the question is: is the extra cost worth it for the always-on screen? Are there any other benefits I've missed? Will the SE be sufficient for what I need?
I'm happy to pay the extra if it's worth it but I was hoping to get some good insight from everyone here.
Thanks!
Hey there, Apple Watch enthusiasts! I recently got my hands on the Apple Watch SE (2022) and wanted to share my experience with all of you. As an Apple Watch 8 user, I've been pleasantly surprised by the SE model, and I'm curious to hear your opinions on it.
Personally, I don't consider myself a heavy Apple Watch user, so the lower battery life hasn't been a major concern for me. I usually don't have an issue with charging it overnight, and it easily lasts throughout the day. However, I can see how it might be a downside for those who rely on their Apple Watch for extended periods without access to a charger.
When it comes to health features, the Apple Watch SE might not offer all the bells and whistles of the Apple Watch 8, but for someone like me who is generally healthy and doesn't have any specific health risk factors, it works just fine. I don't necessarily need the extra health monitoring capabilities beyond heart rate tracking. Of course, everyone's health needs are different, so it's essential to consider your specific requirements before making a decision.
One aspect I miss from my Apple Watch 8 is the always-on display. It's convenient to be able to glance at the time and other information without having to lift or tap the screen. However, I understand that compromises are made to keep the Apple Watch SE more affordable, and it's something I'm willing to bear in exchange for the lower cost.
Overall, I've had a positive experience with the Apple Watch SE as a secondary watch. It serves as a reliable companion and offers excellent value for the price. For those of you who are considering dipping your toes into the Apple Watch ecosystem for the first time, I believe the SE could be an excellent starting point.
Now, I'd love to hear from all of you! What are your thoughts on the Apple Watch SE (2022)? Have any of you made the switch from a higher-tier model like the Apple Watch 8? How has the SE performed for you? Let's discuss and share our experiences!
EDIT: I forgot to mention that for my personal experience I have had no issue with the display as well, I have near perfect eyesight so I didn't have a major impact on the 1mm difference from my Apple Watch 8 but that can matter depending on how poor someone's eyesight is
