So currently I am between an Apple watch SE 2022 for 300€ or Apple watch series 7 for 400 €.
This would be my first smartwatch and my main interest is heart rate tracking, resting heart rate, exercise tracking and sleep tracking. Am I missing much with 2nd vs 3rd generation optical heart rate sensor ? Spo2 is also cool but I don’t see myself having any use for it. And well the ECG is really cool but I don’t feel I will use it beyond a couple of times.
Also I will probably rotate with other watches for social things, if that helps for the decision.
Don’t forget fast charge. That alone is enough to push you towards the 7. It’s very nice to wake up in the morning after tracking sleep (and still having 35-40% battery left on GPS version) throw it in the charger, take a shower and have some coffee, and have a fully charged watch waiting for in in maybe 45 minutes. Add in AOD and I think it’s worth it. And the sensors are nice to have.
other than the ECG and spo2 sensors, the only real difference is that the Series 7 has an always-on display, which some people find to be an essential feature of a watch.
one nice thing that the new SE (and the Series 8 and Ultra) has over older watches, though, is the ability for the Watch to always use its internal GPS sensor. some people, like me, get highly annoyed if we're carrying our phones while running or hiking because apple always insisted on utilizing the phone's (worse) gps sensor and its battery when available. still weird that they don't just simply let the use decide which one they want to use, but it is progress

Thinking of purchasing my first 🍎watch and having a hard time deciding between SE and the series 7. Is it worth purchasing the series 7 over SE? SE users please enlighten me.
My SE is great- would definitely recommend!
I asked myself the same question when I got mine. In the end my main motivations in getting the SE over the S7 was the fact that its cheaper, and me not being old enough yet for many of the S7’s features like blood oxygen and ECG. Getting the S7 knowing that I’d have to wait two years in order to be able to use these features seemed like a royal waste of money. And I knew I wouldn’t be using my watch enough as that I’d need the larger screen.
Sp I’m considering an Apple Watch. But I’m not sure if I should go for the S7 or SE. The S7 has more features(obviously) but there’s only two things missing from the S7 on the SE. So which one should I buy?
If money is no object, S7.
Otherwise,
-
Does the Always-on Display or ECG matter to you? Try finding a S5 secondhand, or brand new if there is somewhere with brand new stock.
-
Do you absolutely want blood oxygen measurements? S6.
-
If you're fine with no AOD, no ECG, and no blood oxygen measurements, you'll be happy with the SE.
But whatever you do, do not buy a S3. It's 4 year old technology, sluggish most of the time so the experience of having an Apple Watch is marred somewhat, and is most likely on its last year or two of software support. Nothing is wrong with the S3 by itself, but when you compare it to other options, it loses its appeal.
EDIT: added reasons not to buy a S3 in 2021.
I bought the SE. reason? Just money, because SE doesn’t do anything (for me) that S7 would do. AOD, ECG AND O2 (biggest diff.) are NOT things that I ever use! Screen size? Yep it is much better but again (for me), big screen to do what?! Please keep in mind that I have an iPad and an iPhone by my side all the time. AND I’m NOT an athlete or even workout (sorry ma). Hope this helps :)
I’m so stuck!! 2 weeks ago my Fitbit versa took a shit and I can’t live without a watch. The Apple watches you can take phone calls on. But $200 more than the fit bit. So now it’s between the 7 and se. give me your thoughts!!
My Garmin GPS watch recently died and I'm interested in purchasing an Apple Watch primarily for fitness purposes. I'm torn between purchasing the more affordable Apple Watch SE (cellular) or waiting for the upcoming Series 7. From my understanding the only notable capabilities that the Series 7 has over the SE is the always on display, blood oxygen/ECG capabilities, and a more durable screen. I'm unlikely to use these capabilities, so in my opinion it is not worth the extra ~$150.
However, the Series 7 is obviously newer and has a faster processor. Will this increase the longevity of my watch? I'm worried that I purchase the Apple Watch SE and after 2-3 years it becomes slow and not able to properly Apple OS.
If my goal is to keep my watch as long as possible, is it worth spending the approximate $150 more for the Series 7 and its newer processor?
Thanks for the recommendations!
I bought my SE last year instead of 6. No regrets. ECG and blood oxygen are not reliable (at least not yet) and I hate always on display. Since I used Fitbit for about 5 years, daily charging is still weird for me. I don't get it how come Apple Watch has the lousiest battery. Ok back on the topic. People are still buying AW 3 instead od 6 and 7 and they work perfectly, maybe a little bit slower. Try getting a good deal on the SE, a little more than 200$. If you break it in a couple of years it's not that much. And later get an 8 or 9.
I’d only recommend someone to spend all that money on a series 7 if they’re on a series 4 or older and/or they’re comfortable with dropping $400+ on a smart watch. If that price seems steep then the SE will hold up fine (the processor difference isn’t all that big so S7 isn’t gonna last much longer than the SE, but it does have a flashier screen that will stick around for a few years, if you’d like that. Blood oxygen isn’t really worth much and if you didn’t care much about the ecg before you probably won’t now. AOD is also preference. At the end of the day, it boils down to whether you’re fine with spending that much on a smart watch because if you’re not then you shouldn’t get it regardless.
Will be used for general time telling, tracking sleep, and tracking light exercise. Have small wrists so will be getting the smaller screen. 40mm on SE 2 or 41mm on S7.
The thing that I'm mostly hung up on is the fact that the SE 2 has the newest chip so it will get more updates in the future. But the S7 has U1 (UWB) chip which could be useful for Find My tracking, and fast charging. However the SE 2 has an improved gyroscope.
I'm in the market for a new Apple Watch, and I'm torn between the Apple Watch Series 7 and the Apple Watch SE 2022. I am deciding between these two particular watches.
Apple Watch Series 7: 97% capacity battery, 2 year’s old, 45mm, 300USD Pros: Always on display (even though lot of my friends disabled this feature because of battery), more sensors (will I really use it?), fast charging, keyboard (you can download to SE), the seller will give me more bands and protection for the watch, larger screen Cons: Higher price, they are two years old so the battery may go down quickly
Apple Watch SE 2022: 100% capacity battery, almost new, 44mm, 250USD Pros: Longer IOS support, lower price, 100% battery Cons: No keyboard, always on display, sensors, fast charging. Smaller display
Both watches are black. I want them for everyday use, running and going to the gym everyday. The prices are the best for my country.
Thank you for any help!
Hi! I’m looking to buy my first Apple Watch, I’m a competitive swimmer and it seems helpful for tracking and pacing. I don’t really want to spend a whole lot on a watch if I don’t have too, so i’ve been looking at the SE, SE 2 and series 7. I’m definitely opened to refurbished and looking to spend around 200 dollars or maybe less. Thanks!
Trying to decide what to buy as a gift for someone who wants an Apple Watch and cares a lot about tracking their sleep.
Is there any appreciable difference in the ability of the SE vs. the Series 7 to track sleep? As best I can tell, all you're paying for (in this department) on the Series 7 is faster charging, blood oxygen measuring, and ECG; there isn't anything that's actually better about the sleep tracking feature itself on the 7 vs. the SE. I'm having a hard time deciding whether it's worth it to pay the extra $100+ for the Series 7.
If you were buying an Apple Watch for someone who really wants to make use of the sleep tracking feature, which would you get?
Hello Reddit,
So I'm in the market for my first Apple Watch ever and I'm torn between the Series 7 and the SE. I've read a bunch of reviews and I'm still not sure which one to go for. I don’t think I need features like blood oxygen or the ECG, but I prefer the larger display.
What do you guys think? Should I go for the Series 7 or the new SE? What are the pros and cons of each? I'd love to hear your thoughts and opinions.
I was in the market to finally upgrade my Series 3 (still going strong).
I managed to snag a brand new Series 7 for a very cheap price.
I’ve always heard that the SEs are excellent value for money and to opt for them.
So - should I keep the Series 7 or get the latest SE?
Thanks
So I just sold my brand new Apple Watch SE 2nd Gen because I wouldn’t be able to use its cellular function (different region). As I was browsing, there are some secondhand Series 7 being sold at the same price or a bit higher price.
So I'm planning a late Christmas gift for my mom and She's been eyeing to pair up her iPhone with an Apple watch. I've been saving up for a year so I have approximately 500 USD (if converted).
I'm entirely new between the Apple Watch models so I don't really know what to choose? So please help me ;-;
Here are my questions:
What is the best model budget wise?
Is it worth it to buy the series 7? does the added dollars worth it?
Are the newer series have a noticable to the older series to choose it from the latter?
Thank you all so much guys!
You are the only one who can answer that. The screen on the 7 is noticeably bigger. If I were you and money is a thing I would recommend buying a used watch. You will get almost the same thing for a lot less money.
I went for the SE because it still has a good depth of features and a more friendly price tag. I’ve been using mine for a week and a bit and I cannot fault it whatsoever. I wouldn’t hesitate in going for that again. I would love the 7 but the price isn’t to my liking just yet.
Many of you on here often ask what the differences are between the Series 7 and the Apple Watch SE.
Here is a very good recent article that does a very good job of explaining all that. I hope it helps you in making your decisions.
https://9to5mac.com/2022/05/27/apple-watch-se-vs-7/
That article is okay, but it claims the SE charges from 0 to 80% in 60 min, when it really takes about 90 min. They’re correct about the 7 taking 45 min. Looks like they think Apple is claiming the 7 charges 33% faster than the SE, but Apple instead said it charges 33% faster than the 6, which in turn charges 33% faster than the SE. They even link to an Apple article that explicitly states that it takes 90 min for an 80% charge on the SE.
The article also misses some other differences, like the curved edge of the screen, on-screen keyboard, exclusive watch faces, larger available text sizes, better dust resistance, better crack resistance, 5GHz WiFi, 2nd-gen car keys, U1 chip, and cellular upgrade pricing.
Here’s my list of the differences…
Series 7 vs SE
-
Comes in 41mm & 45mm case height (vs 40mm & 44mm)
-
Always-on display
-
New design with 20% bigger screen (larger buttons, more text), rounder corners, smaller bezels, and the screen has a curved edge when viewed from an angle
-
Blood oxygen sensor (Blood Oxygen app, plus background readings during the day and night)
-
Electrical heart sensor (ECG app, plus better readings in Heart Rate app when touching the Digital Crown)
-
50% faster charging (0–80% in 45 min vs 90 min; better for daytime charging if wearing it to sleep)
-
20% faster performance
-
2 exclusive watch faces (and likely more in the future)
-
On-screen keyboard in supported languages (for tapping or swiping)
-
Larger available text sizes
-
Dust resistance (Series 7 is the first Apple Watch with an IP6X rating)
-
More crack-resistant front crystal
-
5 GHz WiFi (vs just 2.4 GHz)
-
2nd-gen car keys in Wallet, with passive entry and remote features (vs 1st-gen, with just active proximity-based tapping)
-
U1 chip (Ultra Wideband radio, enabling short-range wireless location for 2nd-gen car keys in Wallet and potentially other future features)
-
US$50 more expensive cellular upgrade (US$100 vs US$50)
-
Available in more aluminum colorways, plus stainless steel, titanium, & Hermès options
If money is not a question, then S7 is a choice, otherwise, SE. The major differences are AOD, Oxygen, ECG app and bigger display.
Is the watch SE (2022 version debut yesterday not the one last year) better than 7 in terms of spec, feature, build, software and prices?
Is the only difference the always on display, ECG and blood oxygen sensor?
Researching into what watch to buy, i wondered why many people do not recommend the SE 1 + 2? What difference is there in features that makes it so affordable? Im only interested in one simply for tracking steps and calories / activity , would the se be a good option for me?
