In my opinion there are really only two good reasons to get the Ultra over the 8: you NEED more battery life, e.g. you do multi-day hikes or other endurance events where the 8's battery won't cut it. If you are a typical daily user and charge every night the battery gains are really not consequential. you like the look of the Ultra. this is a perfectly legitimate reason. I suppose there are some other very minor feature like if you think the dive rating is useful or if you really want the action button.
