I’ve been trying to add a Gift Card to my Apple Pay. In theory a Gift Card loaded onto Apple Pay would only be tracked by its “Card Identification ID” that Apple Pay uses, including not having your name. This is good enough for what I need it for (it’s not shady, I just don’t trust the website not to have a leak that would include credit cards. The website is itself just so obviously low-security). Even in a worst case scenario leak, hypothetically all you could see is a no-name Gift Card.

I bought a $25 VISA Gift Card thinking it would be simple. When I put it in, it gave a an error explaining that the [gift] card bank vendor does not support Apple Pay. When you click “Learn More” you actually get a gigantic list of supported banks. My card was issued by “Pathward N.A.”, which was not supported. I found one on Amazon by “Sunrise Banks N.A.”, which was on the list. Sadly, I tried it yesterday and was given the same error.

My guess is that either this card used to be supported, OR perhaps more likely the support is referring to Sunrise Banks’ actual debit card, not including the debit gift card in reality.

Regardless, I wanted to try once more. I’m only down $10 from 2 $25 Visa gift cards so it’s whatever. Do we know of a Visa or Mastercard Gift card (or even beyond those two) that you can successfully load onto your Apple Pay?
