A Cautionary Tale Regarding Bone Conduction Headphones (Aftershokz OpenComm)
I immediately took the headphones ... on my good ear. The next day, I got a massive tinnitus spike and saw my audiologist a few days later. I learned that I just permanently lost -10 dB at my tinnitus frequency in my left ear (despite only using the headphones on my right ear). He told me bone conduction, unlike regular ... Can Listening to High-Frequency Sounds with Bone Conduction Earphones Make Tinnitus / Hearing Worse?
Hiya all, my tinnitus is currently spiking after about 5 years of habituation, which makes it harder to sleep at night. I am currently experimenting with bone conduction earphones that emit a very low volume high frequency sound of about 12,500 Hz to my right ear, the one that seems to be... More on tinnitustalk.com

hearing damage from bone conduction headphones
My work only allows bone conducting headphones, and I've been wearing them daily for 8+ hours a day, 5-6 days a week for close to 10yrs. I haven't noticed any effect on my tinnitus, but I do wear ear plugs with them. My work is loud, so ear plugs not only help with that, but it also allows me to listen to my shokz at a MUCH lower volume and hear them a lot better. I'd suggest trying that. I've never noticed them amplifying sounds. More on reddit.com

October 11, 2022 -
Hey all. I just bought the Shokz Open Runner Pro bone conduction headphones. I wear hearing aids. Without them the headphones produced the frequencies that my hearing aids do!
I’ve read they’re better for tinnitus too, just got them so I don’t know yet.
I couldn’t find any that have better sound-are there any? TIA

I tried those three or four years ago for music and they seemed to intensify my awareness of the T. I know they've been refining them. Perhaps I'll try the upgraded model when my next tax refund rolls around. Hope they work well for you!

Best I've used (with Tinnitus) are open back, over the ear headphones. The open back allows ambient noise in so you don't have pure silence between songs. The over the ear design (ones I got had large ear cups) comfortably go over the hearing aides I wear to help with T. I tried some (cheap) bone conduction headphones and the lack of upper frequency response made my high frequency Tinnitus way more noticeable.

A Cautionary Tale Regarding Bone Conduction Headphones (Aftershokz OpenComm) | Tinnitus Talk Support Forum
March 2, 2025 - I immediately took the headphones off and thought nothing more of it since it was on my good ear. The next day, I got a massive tinnitus spike and saw my audiologist a few days later. I learned that I just permanently lost -10 dB at my tinnitus frequency in my left ear (despite only using the headphones on my right ear). He told me bone conduction, unlike regular sound conduction, is unilateral.

Answer (1 of 2): There is another great answer here but I’d add that asking these types of questions indicates to me a worry that one might have about tinnitus getting potentially worse, which is understandable. However, those things are just worries. The reality is, if you are reasonable with so...

The 3 Most Popular Types of Headphones for Tinnitus
December 14, 2022 - These are potentially good headphones for tinnitus since they are able mask the ambient noise that comes in through the ears. Some traditional headphones will block out the external sounds and ambient noise, which could make the tinnitus seem louder if they were being partially masked by them. By using bone conduction headphones to mask external sounds, it could make it easier for individuals to temporarily mitigate their tinnitus...

AfterShokz Aeropex bone conduction headphones
April 14, 2023 - These AfterShokz headphones are ideal for tinnitus suffers as you can still hear the world around you whilst using sound as a form of distraction and relaxation for tinnitus (sound therapy). I have to say, I was blown away. The sound quality is extremely good. Being an Audiologist and knowing the output limitations of bone-conduction (we use it for hearing assessments), I was dubious about the quality.
