Costco vs. The Audiologist - Chicago Hearing Services
September 29, 2025 - Hearing loss is incredibly complicated, and being able to pinpoint the precise degree of a variety of symptoms is a prerequisite to treating the hearing loss as effectively as possible. Some patients also have complicating factors, like tinnitus, or neurological issues, or other physical ailments. All these factors need to be considered when putting together a treatment plan and selecting a hearing aid. The truth is, Costco may be great at selling items in bulk, but diagnosing and properly treating hearing loss is an entirely different specialty.

r/HearingAids on Reddit: My audiologist said not to go to Costco?
October 29, 2023 -

My audiologist recommended that I get hearing aids for my mild-moderate hearing loss. He specifically told me not to go to Costco, miracle ear, or anything like that. He said I didn't have to go back to him, but to go to an audiologist rather than one of those places, because they don't have audiologists and will not be able to do it correctly.

Is this really a concern? Do audiologists not help with Costco hearing aids? Price is a big factor for me. I have family members with Costco hearing aids (my loss is genetic) who have no complaints. I'm confused. What has your experience been with Costco? And have you had an audiologist say this to you?

Costco Hearing Aids Review
August 14, 2023 - This Jabra device is a bit more expensive than Philips BTE devices sold at Costco. Prices start at around $1,700. The rechargeable charging station doubles as storage and gives the hearing aids three full charges before it needs to be recharged. Not a lot of distinguishing features to rank this above other models sold at Costco.

4 Best Reasons to Get Costco Hearing Aids
When they discontinued the Kirkland Signature 10.0 hearing aid that cost around $1,400, they immediately discounted all their other brands. Instead of paying up to $2,500 for Philips, Jabra, or Rexton hearing aids, you can now get these devices for around $1,600 to $1,700 - significantly less than what you'll pay at a private practice audiology clinic like mine. Another benefit of discontinuing the Kirkland Signature model was eliminating the over-recommendation problem. Previously, Costco associates often recommended this brand simply because it was the lowest-priced option, rather than because it was actually the best choice for the patient's hearing loss.
