Silicone baking/cooking stuff, good or bad? (cooking forum at permies)
February 2, 2022 - The muffin tins haven't discolored at all after many uses. The cake pans have. I used the cake pans and a silpat style flat mat for roasting tomatoes last summer in prep for canning them, and that did discolor them permanently. But I'm still using them. I also like the silicon mat for rolling out, say, pie crust, and then lifting and placing it gently.

What are our thoughts on silicone pans?
Freaking hate them. So floppy, and if I have to put it on a baking tray what’s the point? But silicone cupcake pans are really really good for freezing portions of stuff like stock or grated ginger or whatever, because the frozen thing pops right out. So there’s that. More on reddit.com

Are silicone muffin pans 100% stick-proof? Do I still need to grease them if I'm making a batch of egg muffins, for instance?
Should be. Nothing wrong with spraying them with a bit of oil if you’re worried though, it won’t impact egg muffins. More on reddit.com

Silicone bakeware vs everything else
Silicone doesn't conduct heat very well, hence the less-crispness. They're mostly used for their non-stick quality and their stability in high heat. Metal muffin tins are the way to go if you want crispness on your muffins. If you don't want to line the muffin tin with muffin liners then you'll have to apply non-sticking agents on. Non-stick vegetable spray is good, or do what I do and use pan-grease (aka cake goop amongst most bakers) which is a equal parts mix of shortening, vegetable oil, and flour by weight. Those Silicone Molds And Cookware Are Toxic (You’ve Been Misled)!
🌐 tiktok.com
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but your “non-toxic” silicone cookware is, in fact, TOXIC! Multiple studies have shown that when you heat up silicone cookware past 200°, you release toxic chemicals called siloxanes into your food and air! 🥘💨 The damage caused by siloxanes includes liver and thyroid damage, as well as many other health issues like uterine cancer! While these nonstick molds/utensils have been marketed as a non-toxic kitchen item, the research disagrees! 🔬 To add insult to injury, it’s not just the silicone molds - even your unbleached parchment paper is coated in silicone - so it will also leach off those toxic siloxanes! 📜 Your best bet is to give silicone a side-eye and choose to cook with ceramic, glass, stoneware, and stainless steel! If you really need your cookware to be non-stick, coat your cookware with organic oils like coconut oil, olive oil, butter, or Ghee instead of reaching for a nonstick material! Trust me - the extra prep time is worth the extended health you and your family get by going the extra mile to be non-toxic in the kitchen! #silicone #siliconemolds #homecooking #nontoxiclifestyle #nontoxicliving | TikTok

July 13, 2012 - I have a silicone muffin pan; I use cupcake liners whenever baking cupcakes and my cupcakes come out tasting with that odor! Anyone knows the reason for this? Silpats are great. Paul’s Cooking Tips: How to use a silicone muffin pan in so many ways beyond baking: freezing stock, ice cubes and organizing
October 10, 2020 - Naturally, I’ve put it to use for baking — surprise — muffins. But the device has found a couple other uses in the kitchen I’ve come to appreciate over the past couple months. In the oven, silicone baking pans do behave differently from their metal counterparts. Silicone doesn’t let most baked goods brown the same way as metal.

The ones I ordered at the same time do not fit. The bottom of the paper liner is too big for the bottom of the pan and had to be overlapped and looked terrible after baking. I made the next batch without liners which popped out if the pan without a problem. Good luck

Silicone Bakeware: Pros, Cons, and Care Tips – Giraffy Co.
Here’s a quick table with some common items and what they’re good for: Because silicone is flexible, we can pop cakes and muffins out with a twist—no more chiseling or prying. Some pans have intricate shapes for fun bakes like mini flowers or animals, though if you’re picky about detail, you might want to double-check for even heat. Silicone stands out for being nonstick, flexible, and colorful, but there are trade-offs.

It was a gold colored nonstick pan by OXO, the OXO Good Grips Non-Stick Pro 12-Cup Muffin Pan. It’s about $25. What we liked about it were a few traits that we found useful across the board. For one thing, the nonstick coating. We didn’t want muffins to stick in there when you turn the pan over or you want to lift them out; you don’t want them to break and leave some behind.
