I don't currently own a monitor but I'd like one in the future. I'm weighing my options since I'd like a big lizard but not one that gets as massive as an Asian water monitor and also not as small as an ackie. Argus monitors seem like the perfect size for what I'm looking for. I'm also looking for monitors that have a friendly temperament. I want a big ol lizard that can be my friend, basically.
So, for those of you that have experience with them, what are their temperaments like? I've seen that they are very intelligent and can even be trained (to an extent). Are they nippy at all? Are they a species of monitor you'd recommend or would you recommend a different species?
Any input would be greatly appreciated! I'm not planning on getting one any time soon. I'll only take on the responsibility once I am certain I have all the information, the proper husbandry, and extra money for if they ever needed a vet.

Argus has decent monitoring, but I ended up switching to this software for better graphs.
