January 10, 2007 - At least for Aria guitars made by Matsumoku, the serial number contains the year of manufacture in the first one or two digits (Y##### or YY####). Thus, a guitar from 1979 might begin with 79####. One from 1981 might begin with 1#####. The scheme becomes less sure after 1987.

April 17, 2013 - I reckon Jovino has it - it's not a faker. There's a bit in the APII catalogues that says something along the lines of 'specifications may change without notice'. With Aria, that's not a threat, it's a promise No serial number + the headstock design tweak = Not Made in Japan.

January 23, 2016 - That one is around 79-82. While it is unusual for there to be no serial number, I can guarantee you that is a Matsumoku instrument. The sandwich body is also quite normal as it was copied from the Norlin Gibsons of the same era.
