Hi,
So, driver or no additional driver ? Simple classic « phone » usb-c to usb-a cable or special usb-c console/serial cable ? The console port is included in the switch or not ? I don’t get any COM port displayed in my windows 11 device manager so I cannot specify one in Putty. Some have the com port mount automatically (on Linux). The docs talk about a software ftdi driver. I installed it and nothing happened/no com port.
So, am I forced to buy a arubaConsoleCable ? Should I install the drivers « the right way » or is there a simple thing I completely missed (except my career choice)? Thank you in advance to help me access this brand new switch.
Edit: my problem was using a "charging-only" cable facepalm Thanks for your answers and information
When I connect my laptop to the console port on the switch via its front type-c console port, my computer says its missing drivers for "CP2102N USB to UART Bridge Controller" and i cannot console in. I found drivers on silabs that work but every time I plug my cable into a new switch, it keeps increasing my COM count. When I'm done, I've used up to like COM30 or higher. Does anyone know better drivers or a better solution to prevent it from using up new COM ports? When I use the typical usb to rj45 console cable on cisco's I don't get any issues like this.
EDIT: I've tried all three windows drivers provided on Silabs
I am trying to console into some Aruba 505 AP to reset them (reset button doesnt work)...
I have downloaded the Silicon Lab usb to uart driver, but it gives me the error 10 cannot start device. Windows doesnt have driver for the console cable. I tried the one from HP and it didnt work either. Ive tried three different computers, and 3 different Aps. I only have one cable...
Thoughts? On How I can reset these MFers without a console cable... I unplug from power and hold reset button and plug back in and hold for 20 seconds and nothing-- just keeps blinking green, set-me-up never comes back.
Hi there
I am trying to connect my laptop to the micro usb port on both our Aruba 8325 switches but cannot. I can connect to the RJ45 port just fine. Also the micro usb port works just find on our 6300m series devices. Any suggestions?
So I do a lot of switch config on Aruba switches, and lately I've gotten a big batch of 6200F's in. These only come with USB-C console ports which would normally be fine, but as I console into different switches my COM port changes each time, and the previous COM port shows as (in use).
Is there a way to prevent that from happening? Having to change my COM port each time gets really annoying as I pretty much have to keep Device Manager open to see what it is.
My cable is a standard USB to USB-C cable.
I'm using Windows 11, but this is a recent change and the problem existed on Windows 10 as well.
