It has to do with the stupid notion that by doing something really disrespectful to another human, you're showing the world what an awesome alpha male you are. You're showing him whose boss. You're forcing him to submit to your degrading act, proving you are dominant and he is submissive. And with urine so often used by animals to mark territory/property, a man who pees on a other "owns" him. (At least that's the theory) Really it seems more like a lame rationalization to treat another person with the least amount of respect possible, as if it somehow elevates your position by being as big of a dick as possible.

I'm new to Reddit and have been seeing these "eye contact", "pee" and "alpha" references on a lot of posts. Although I get the humour there, I'm quite curious about the roots! Is there an original posts where all this started? Any links? I'd like to know. Thanks in advance.

I don't believe there's any single post from which it originates. You're familiar with the term "Alpha Male," right? An alpha male is strong, dominate, assertive. This is in contrast to being a "Beta Male"; weak, timid, socially awkward. The whole alpha/beta male dichotomy is ridiculous, but I think as an internet meme, it largely stemmed from 4chan and spread from there. So you have some people who genuinely buy into it, and it affects their worldview, but more commonly it's used as a joke, and you see people giving advice to be hyperbollically masculine, thus "pissing while maintaining eye contact" and the like.

The Alpha Beta terminology originates from hierachy studies within the animal kingdom. Take a pack of wolves for example. Each pack of wolves has one Alpha Male. He is the Boss. He gets to mate with all of the females. He became the Alpha male because he fought the old Alpha male and won the spot from the prior Alpha male. The other male dogs in the same pack are referred to as Beta males. They can not breed with the females or risk death or being kicked out of the pack by the Alpha. Eye contact is a similar concept. Beta males do not make direct contact with the Alpha. If the Alpha looks directly at a Beta male the Beta will avert their eyes and look at the ground. Think of it like an animal form of deference or respect for the Alpha. Peeing refers to the marking on ones territory which is how all sorts of animals mark their territory, wolves and large cats included. There are countless examples of hierachies in the animal world; Wolves, Meerkats, Monkeys, Apes etc. Even in human society hierarchies are thought to exist. Think of the "Big Man on Campus" type stuff or the "Guy" that gets all the girls.. Edit - grammar.

There's always that highly upvoted comment on threads in popular subreddits telling someone to urinate/poop on or masturbate in front of something to assert dominance. That's disgusting. What the hell is that about and how do you sick freaks find it funny?

it's just a ludicrous suggestion, a response that nobody in their right minds would actually do. It's funny because it'll never happen. It's kinda like that "say WOLOLOLOLOLO and ascend to your astral plane" joke. So the setup is something like- "My boss just told me I was a loser, what should I do?" "ASSERT DOMINANCE!" It's one of those things that appeals to the everyman fantasy of suddenly "manning up" and taking control, but in a overdramatic, exaggerated sense. So I guess it's kind of like a "fuck the system" joke that has a bit of a "yea, right, actually we can't do anything about it, so let's just joke about it hur hur" thing. Hope that makes some sort of sense to you.
