r/steelseries on Reddit: Arctis 9x vs Astro a50 gen 4
December 2, 2019 -

What’s your guy’s opinion on both headsets?

I know the gen 4’s around launch had problems but if they didn’t what would you choose?!

The reason I say if it didn’t have problem is because a friend of mine recently got a new pair through amazon and he says they’re perfectly fine. I wonder if Astro is silently replacing the gen 4’s and sending out good pairs.

The 9x’s controls on the ear cup to crowded to me. Are they touchy?

Let me hear everyone’s thoughts please.

So I had a set of turtle Beach elite pro 2 that broke on me recently and being the impatient guy that I am, I went out and purchased the Astro A50s and ended up returning them a few days later due to the issues it had. Found out my turtle Beach ones would be covered under warranty but still needed a pair to get through until I received new ones, so went out and bought the arctis 9x. Seems like I am having some of the same issues as with the A50s, chat/game dial seems to lower or increase both as oppose to one another, so gunshots in Apex are really loud as well as my party chat, but footsteps aren't that great. Not sure if it's something in doing wrong or what. Have yet to find a good EQ setting and posted about both these issues a couple days ago with no response yet. So in my experience they both are a let down, I had Astro A40s for like 3 years with no issues and I should have just bought the A50 gen 3 when I bout my turtle Beach ones.. Needless to say I am still looking for a good wireless headset and just using the 9x (cause they cost less than A50) until my TB replacement arrives. Probably doesn't answer your question but I wrote to much to erase now lol

Depends... 9x has vastly superior sound quality detail. Very bright and amazing. Healthy bass as well. But the quality is 2nd to none. However, the surround sound is lacking. It’s there but very faint. OTOH The A50s gen 4 nail surround sound. You can clearly identify where footsteps, bullets or anything else is coming from. It’s amazing how immersive they are and the bass is top notch and accurate. However, at a cost of sound detail. Regardless of eq settings, they simply don’t match the sound quality and detail of the 9x. I have both and it’s hard to go back to the A50s after gaming on the 9x. On a side note, both are wireless and the base station of the A50s is vastly improved over the gen 3.

Steelseries arctis 9x vs Astro a50 gen 4

I went with the 9x because there is no base station you have to plug into the xbox and the Bluetooth functionality. Being able to keep my headset on while looking at my phone or taking a call while in between games is a great feature.

Arctis 9x vs Astro A50
Go with what your gut tells you. I bought the A50s cause I’ve never owned a pair before and let me tell you they are amazing to me as a first time owner. I’ve only had one bad experience and that was the base station died in two days after getting them. GameStop replaced them free of charge and I got a new pair and the warranty I bought transferred over to the new ones and I haven’t had issues since More on reddit.com
