Exactly. Beta BIOS hasn't been fully tested and passed the manufacturer's QA/QC steps. My advice is stick to the latest production BIOS version unless you are having one of the specific issues listed in the release notes for the Beta version. Regarding your RAM training... are you using RAM that's on the hardware QVL ? Some of these AMD systems won't run with certain RAM kits no matter what you do. Hence the reason manufacturers have a QVL in the first place. Answer from hammong on reddit.com

r/ASUS on Reddit: Beta BIOS. what is it really?
March 11, 2026 -

hey! so i have an ASUS PRIME X870-P board and i’m having issues with ram training and my 9600x in terms of stability.

latest BIOS non-beta is ver. 1627 and includes update for AGESA to ComboAM5 Pl_Pre1.3.0.0.

latest beta BIOS is ver. 1642 and the AGESA is now Pl_1.3.0.0a.

listed changes are stability for certain 9000 series processors and boot failures. as well as ram training improvements.

i want to update to troubleshoot my issues, but I’m uncertain of what a “Beta” BIOS means. since it drops the “Pre” for AGESA.

is the beta bios just an early release of the next version that hasn’t been completely tested or something? first time I need to update to a beta version to troubleshoot.

Thanks!

ASUS beta BIOS brings back TSME support to AM5 X870/B850/X670 boards - VideoCardz.com
10 hours ago - As usual with beta BIOS releases, this is not a final public support-page rollout for every board. Users who depend on stable systems may want to wait for final BIOS builds, but this update confirms that ASUS has already started distributing AGESA 1.3.0.1b Patch A with TSME support for Ryzen 9000 platforms.

ASUS Releases X870 BIOS with "Future CPU Support": Beta Firmware and AGESA References Fuel Speculation About Upcoming AM5 CPUs
April 2, 2026 - This time it’s ASUS—more specifically, a series of new beta BIOS versions for X870, B850, X670, and B650 boards—that appeared on the ROG forum with the rather dry note “Future CPU Support.” At first glance, that sounds like the usual phrasing manufacturers use to say everything and nothing.

r/ASUS on Reddit: beta or regular bios update?
January 19, 2021 -

Hi im soon going to be the owner of a ASUS B550-F Strix motherboard (non wifi version)
i took a look at the bios update page here: https://rog.asus.com/motherboards/rog-strix/rog-strix-b550-f-gaming-model/helpdesk_bios/

and found that some of the updates are labeled as Beta
im looking for another persons opinion, should i get the latest non beta version or just the latest version. is it risky to get a beta version
and also how often should i update the bios, because as far as i am concerned its just when the cpu requires it, is it not?

im pairing the motherboard with a Ryzen 7 5800x

I'm trying to find the answer to the same question, I'm not sure there is one to be honest. Many of the results of my search ended with "If your computer is stable, why update to a beta version as it may brick your system" or "YOU CAN GETY HACKED IF YOU DON'T UPPGRADE ASAP, SECURITY UPDATES BRO!" So, yea...Do I potentially brick my computer, or leave potential security flaws unfixed? Decisions, decisions... I have the exact same board you are looking at. I am currently on BIOS version 1202, which was the last non-beta version to be released. there are 4 releases after that one, all beta. Edit : As thing stand, my computer is stable. No CTDs or anything like that, and my PBO seems to be squeezing an extra 150mhz out of my CPU. I would like to update to the latest BIOS version, I just can't bring myself to update to a Beta version. Hopefully somebody more experienced will come along and give us some advice!

As a power user, I often grab the latest bios to see how things change. I've at times switched back to an older bios when things were worse. (which, for Asus boards, I think this is only possible with bios flashback) I don't recommend this for most people. For most users, I'd recommend looking over what the release notes state to decide if it's worth updating or not. Generally, avoid beta versions, as there may be instabilities or bugs that have not yet been corrected. For AMD, it can be good to update when AMD's AGESA changes (when a stable version is released) as this can improve stability, performance, and security. If the notes state that a security fix was added, it's recommended to update to one of these bioses. If the notes state something about DRAM compatibility, but you haven't had any problems with your ram, you're probably better off skipping the update. This is all my opinion on how a casual user should treat updates.
