Update BIOS before installing Windows 11 or after?
Videos
Hi all,
I have a Windows 10 PC that I upgraded last year with new hardware (mobo, cpu, gpu). With Windows 10 support coming to an end, I was looking to enable my system to support Windows 11. Currently I get a pop up from Windows saying my PC doesn't meet the requirements.
After some interwebs searches, I found I need to change my BIOS boot options from legacy to UEFI, to enable secure boot, and turn CSM off. I was able to do all those things. However, now when I boot up I go straight to BIOS and the OS doesn't seemingly get booted. Is the issue here that I installed the OS with the legacy boot mode? Will reinstalling the OS with these new BIOS settings fix the issue? Or is there another setting in the BIOS that should/could be changed to fix this issue?
Basically what it says in the title, how do i update the BIOS? my motherboard is TUF B450M-PLUS GAMING, i use W11 and my cpu (in case is needed, which idk) is the Ryzen 7 2700X.
I've read a few articles online from the official Asus website and i haven't gotten anywhere except from downloading the bios update file, help.
i have a custom build pc and i need to update the bios on my asus motherboard but im new to this and not exactly sure how can someone please tell me
Just finished my build, and i keep seeing youtube videos of “what to do after building pc” and they recomend to have 1 usb for the os install, and 1 for the bios update that also requires another laptop to download it which i dont have !
Every single time I update my BIOS, Windows 11 loses its mind and refuses to let me sign into anything and I need to get into security processor troubleshooting, sign in and out of Microsoft apps several times to no avail.
WTF. Someone please explain in plain English, how I am to update my BIOS. This should not be this complicated, but windows 11 makes it a nightmare for some reason. Asus Z790 Hero.
This is great. I found the option and finally got to activate it.
Thanks so much!
Hello Louie, sorry about your problems. My name is Marco and I will do my best to help you.
Updating your motherboard's BIOS should not typically affect your Windows activation. However, if the BIOS update changed certain hardware identifiers that Windows uses for its activation process, it could potentially cause Windows to think it's on a new device and therefore require reactivation.
So, you can run the activation troubleshooter on your device and select “I recently changed hardware on this device”. This will check if your Windows 8 Pro key is still valid and try to reactivate Windows 11.
You can find the steps to do this in this article: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/rea...
