I have very random freezes (1-3 times a week) that happen ONLY when I am playing some game (never when doing something in Windows). When the computer freezes, there is no sound loop or anything, it's just completely irresponsive. The reset button does not work and I must turn off the computer ... More on rog-forum.asus.com

Maximus IV 04 debug code - Republic of Gamers Forum - 192355
Doesn't even display anything on screen. the Debug code on the motherboard says 04, which corresponds to 'pch initialization before microcode loading' . I don't actually know what that means and i have tried searching the internet for help but have had no luck. If i clear CMOS i can get it to turn on again and i see the splash screen but then i get stuck in the same vicious circle where it wont turn on after exiting BIOS. Hoping someone on here know how to fix ... More on rog-forum.asus.com

r/buildapc on Reddit: PC won't shut down.. ASUS Q Code 04
July 8, 2017 -

Troubleshooting Help:

Parts list

  • i7-7700k

  • ASUS Maximus IX Code

  • EVGA GTX 1080 SC

  • Corsair Vengeance 2x8GB 3200MHz

  • Corsair 750HX PSU

  • Corsair H110i AIO Cooler

  • 2 x 500GB Samsung SSDs in RAID0

  • ASUS Xonar Xense PCIe Audio Card / Headphone Amp

Describe your problem. List any error messages and symptoms. Be descriptive.

  • When I shut down my PC, or restart my PC, my Motherboard hangs up on Q-Code 04

  • Code meaning: PCH initialization after microcode loading

  • It will sit there for hours if I let it, and won't shut down.

  • It logs out of windows, shuts off my monitors (no video signal) but the lights stay on, and all the fans keep spinning, pump still pumps, etc.. but will not completely shut down

List anything you've done in attempt to diagnose or fix the problem.

I had Cable Mod braided PSU extensions installed, I removed those, and it seemed to go away for a day, but now it's doing it again. Returned the extensions anyways.

I have tried disabling "fast boot" in bios, as I read someone suggested to do that in a prior model motherboard.

I tried moving my RAM to different slots.

I tried buying new RAM thinking the DIMMs may be faulty somehow.

I have disabled nearly everything in PCH that BIOS settings that I don't use.

Post relevant photos of build/parts here.

Anything else

This is a brand new build, 7 days old. I have never had this much trouble with a build before. The CPU is not Overclocked, but the RAM is set to XMP.
