Hey there, I can recommend " Fan Control " if you wish to try it out. " No third-party software, at all, as much as they might want to tout that they do, do not have this level of control. This is what happens when someone that sees a problem, is an enthusiast, and is a programmer, gets involved and says I'm gonna do something that nobody has been doing a way I feel they should do it, and they did it right in my opinion. I'm currently using Arch Linux on an ASUS laptop with an NVIDIA 3050 GPU, an integrated GPU, and a Ryzen 7 4800H processor. I've noticed that my laptop easily reaches temperatures of 80-90ยฐC even with basic multitasking and terminal usage, which wasn't the case when I was using Windows. I monitor the temperatures using btop.

I haven't tried gaming yet, but I'm concerned that the fans are not running at full power. I tried installing the Fancontrol GUI from the AUR, but it didn't provide any options, or maybe I just don't know how to use it.

I've also installed asusctl. Can I control the fan speed using asusctl, or is it automatically managed by the ACPI thermal management? Please guide me on how to better manage the fan speeds on my system.

Please be kind I'm new here and meganoob

Thank you!

finding a decent fan control app for asus laptops is rough. the official software is bloated, and most 3rd party tools are buggy, laggy, or just abandoned.

i got tired of dealing with that, so i built the tool i always wanted. i took the best ideas from whatโ€™s out there, threw away the broken parts, and rebuilt everything from scratch to make it stable and smooth.

thatโ€™s how Zenith Fan Utility came to be, a no-nonsense fan controller that actually works in 2025:

  • lag-free fan curve editor โ€“ add, remove, and drag points instantly.

  • modern ui โ€“ fully dpi-aware, sharp text, no tiny or blurry controls.

  • stable + lightweight โ€“ no memory leaks, no random crashes.

  • smart tray control โ€“ live stats on hover, one-click toggle for the window.

  • advanced features made simple โ€“ hysteresis, refresh rate config, all functional.

  • free & open source โ€“ no ads, no telemetry, no junk.

note: works only with asus system control interface v3.1.40.0 or older (newer versions block manual fan control). the github readme has a quick guide to check/downgrade if needed.

grab the first release here: github.com/realMoai/ZenithFanUtility

if youโ€™ve been frustrated with the options out there, give this one a shot. i built it to be the last fan utility youโ€™ll need.

r/FanControl on Reddit: FanControl on x870e not detecting sensors (Asus x870e-creative) v207
November 2, 2024 -

Any suggestions on why fan control is not detecting any fans / sensors?

I tried Embedded EC (ASUS), and also other Libre checkboxes but nothing gets detected. The only thing i can get detected is the AMD RDNA GPU if i check it.
- I've tried both v207 install (.net8) and standalone client.
- Also tried couple Plugins ASUS WMI and HWiNFO but both seem to be out of date on GitHub and not working.

Recent ASUS x570 Hero was working fine (out of the box) on this version.

EDIT1: Originally Plugin DDLs were not unblocked, however after unblocking them still same issue.

EDIT2: v209 recently became available but for me it freezes the app when I try and refresh, scan for fans.
- Update LibreHardwareMonitorLib (some X870 support + various other motherboards)

EDIT3: v212 the intaller version of FanControll is now detecting fans on start but freezes when doing the re-scann. The Portable (standalone run from folder) version is working normally. I can see, rescan and control fans like normal without any plugins. My x870E seems to be back in support (yay!). Haven't figured out why installed version of the app freezes

Iโ€™m using a TUF A15, and usually Armoury Crate has been fine with adjusting the fans. However since I updated to the new version last week, the fan speed control just has not been setting to whatever option I pick. No matter what Iโ€™ve done, it doesnโ€™t work, itโ€™s stuck at the highest setting and the fan sound is insufferably loud. Iโ€™ve gone into BIOS and it wouldnโ€™t let me adjust. Iโ€™ve uninstalled and reinstalled Armoury Crate, no luck. Same with installing an older version. Iโ€™ve opened up the bottom and cleaned the fans themselves, no dice. Iโ€™ve downloaded third party programs, no luck. I canโ€™t figure out whatโ€™s going on here, someone please help!

So I decided to build my latest system with a Proart X670-E. It's a great looking motherboard and has a lof of expandable +/future proof characteristics.

But the only problem is, no matter what software I use, I can't control any of the PWM fans, both chassis and CPU.

I've tried Armoury Crate /FanXpert of course, Argus Monitor and a few others. The message is that fans controlled by Asus Service are only visible and not controllable.

So, the only thing that works, sort of, is changing fan profile in bios, although that's definitely more clunky than Argus Monitor.

Has anyone else had the same issue? Do you think a fan controller might help and if so which one do you recommend?

Thank you

r/ASUS on Reddit: Asus Vivobook 16X Fan control?
June 10, 2025 -

Hello everyone,

I am an ASUS vivobook user. Just bought mine months ago and it is a gaming vivobook. I know gaming and vivobook don't usually go together, but I really like the concept of light and slim gaming laptop, and it's cheap AF. The trade-off is that it heats up really really fast. I tried undervolting GPU and lowering down CPU TDP, it worked to some degree. But I noticed that the fan wasn't functioning as it should be.

Thought MyASUS provides me with fan profile options. But they don't seem to be very effective. I encounter overheating a lot, especially when the CPU goes under heavy load, and the temperature is about 50-60ยฐC, the fan doesn't run fast enough - in my opinion - to prevent the heat from heating up the upper surface of the laptop. That would be very annoying if you are playing games with keyboard, and wouldn't be good for the hardware in the long run.

One day I came across some repos on Github that provide applications to control the fan of Asus Vivobook laptops. But those applications don't work if your machine is using ASUS System Control Interface driver v3.1.39.0 or later. I guess that the APIs that were used to control the fans now require SYSTEM privilege to run. So I came up with the solution of leveraging PsExec and nssm. After hours of working on the project, I finally made it work. The app can be setup to run as a System service on Windows startup, so you don't have to open it up every time.

Here's the built app I released, you can download and use directly.

If you are a developer and want to add features to the app, feel free to fork and make PR.

I am looking for some ideas to be able to control my motherboard fans. Specifically, it would be nice to switch to different profiles, like what is available via ASUS's software Fan Xpert 4; Silent, Standard, Turbo, or Full Speed.
I fear that is too much since there isn't a way of controlling the software via hotkeys or command line control.

I think the solution would be with third-party software, possibly???

TIA

Hey, everybody!
I'm using Arch on my ASUS Vivobook Pro 14X OLED (N7400PC) and can't find a working solution for fan control. Almost all known solutions are focused on ASUS gaming series of laptops and don't support my model.
I can only take readings with lm_sensors, but pwmconfig says there are no configurable fans on my system.
Can you please advise me what I should use?
I'll add any details about the hardware in the comments
