Hi everyone!
Today I received an older PC from a friend of mine. I picked it up, he showed me that the PC was working and then I took it with me in the car. When I arrived home, I connected it to a monitor but it didn't display anything. The motherboard displayed a Qcode 0d. When I start the PC, it starts with Qcode 3f and quickly switches to 0d, where it stays.
Relevant software and hardware I am using: Motherboard: ASUS ROG Crosshair VII Hero (WiFi) Video card: Geforce GTX 1660 ti armor 6g oc Processor: AMD Ryzen 7 2700x eight-core processor Hard drive: Samsung ssd 860 qvo 1tb RAM: Corsair DDR4 Vengeance LPX 16GB (1x) Power supply: Corsair RM750x
I have already found and tried some things on the internet. The conclusion was that it often was either the RAM or the motherboard. What I have tried:
-
Putting the RAM in other slots. When I received it, it was in slot B1 and it worked there. I tried the three other slots.
-
Trying my own PC's RAM in the slots.
-
Trying my own PC's dual RAMs in slots A1-B1 & A2-B2.
Conclusion -> the RAM is not broken.
-
Verified that no cables were loose or pins were bent. This was not the case except for the pins of the USB 3.0 ports of the case. Without these, the PC should still start, right?
Conclusion -> all cables are properly connected, the graphics card and power supply both work in my PC.
-
Verified that my CPU is compatible with the motherboard -> it is stated on the Asus website that this is the case.
-
Verified that my RAM is compatible with the motherboard -> this was not stated on the Asus website as far as I could see.
-
Flashed the bios using a USB stick, reset the CMOS and used the reset button on the motherboard.
My conclusion so far is that it is either the combination of the RAM and the motherboard or the motherboard is defective. The strange thing is that it still worked at my friend's place. Could it be that something went wrong in the car or did I do something very stupid when I connected it?
Are there any other solutions? How can I verify that this is indeed the correct conclusion and what would be the logical next step? Buying a new motherboard?
I'm curious about your thoughts.
Best regards,

Hello, For nearly a year I've been receiving error code "00" on my Asus motherboard. No POST happens a lot of times but after turning it off and on for a couple of times(Sometimes just leaving it off for a few hours and then turning it on again) it will again continue to work normally. During the time when "No POST" happens, I've tried removing RAM sticks and I received the same code.
I've also taken my computer twice to the repair shop. These people did the same thing I did. They checked with different RAM (Same Code-00), then they changed the PSU (Same Code-00). And then they say its a motherboard problem and they need to mess with ICs else my computer won't turn on. Another person said my motherboard is dead and I should buy a new mobo instead.
I usually just take the PC back because I know that if I leave it off for a few hours, it ends up working fine(Most of the time it turns on with just a few attempts).
May I know what should I do to fix the 00 error so my computer works fine always?
Things I have tried:
Resetting the BIOS. Works for a day and then it goes back to Code-00 and after 4-5 attempts of powering On and Off it works fine.
Leaving the system on for 10 or so minutes and then retrying (It works most of the time this way). Saw this on a youtube comment once since a lot of people seem to be getting this 00 error. The explanation which the user gave was that the processor needs a bit of warmth. (But again sometimes it doesn't work).
Clearing CMOS and Removing the Battery (This worked the first time I faced the 00 Error. It worked for a few months and when Error-00 appeared again, I tried this method but it didn't work)
Keep in mind, when my computer works it works perfectly. I even tried doing the stress test on CPU-Z and it worked fine. Could it be some major problem still?
