It doesn't feature a BIOS update button, which means in the even of an incompatible BIOS version, you'd have to have a compatible CPU to update it. However, some sellers will update the BIOS beforehand. It's never a bad idea to verify with the seller that a compatible BIOS version is installed prior to purchasing. More on reddit.com

February 5, 2021Is the ASUS Prime B550M-A any good?
I can give my opinion as a technician and hardware salesperson/consultant. Asus, especially those made in Brazil, are TERRIBLE (practically the entire TUF, PRIME, and some STRIX and ROG lines). They have different components from the imported designs, especially in the VRM sector, using low-quality coils and MOSFETs. In my store, the ones that have the most returns due to defects are by far Asus, and they're almost always defects related to CPU power, like blue screens or shutdowns when the CPU requires more power, and also many BIOS problems. The brands that we have the fewest returns due to premature defects due to quality are MSI, Asrock, and Biostar (yes, Biostar, despite being unknown in Brazil, is a brand that has been manufacturing motherboards for OEMs since the 90s, and their motherboards have super-sized components in practically all sectors, for example, their A520 has 80A drMOS VRMs per stage with 6 stages, the Asus B550 Rog Strix in comparison uses only 30A per stage with 12 stages, therefore, the Biostar A520 can hold a high-demand processor like a Ryzen 9 5950X, for example, at maximum performance within PBO for longer than a Rog Strix B550). Gigabyte / Aorus has good boards that last a long time, but always opt for the /Elite models, the models with the D3H, DS3H ending are super basic, they work, but they don't offer any cost-benefit. If you're going for MSI or Asrock, any model from their B550 line has good quality and should be able to handle any CPU without problems. More on reddit.com

Im waiting on components and haven't started building just yet but I realized that the mobo I went with wont recognize my 5600x without a bios update. But the problem I foresee happening is if it wont post, how do I get into bios to update the mobo?
Does this mobo have a bios flashback USB port that I can stick a thumb drive into? Does anyone have any way of solving this issue? Thank you for the help! The website for this mobo doesnt seem to help or Im just not able to recognize if it has support for a bios flashback. Any help is appreciated

It doesn't have BIOS flashback. To update the BIOS, you would need an older cpu. You can take it to a PC shop and have them do it for you, get the loan kit from AMD or swap your motherboard. Why do you think the board hasn't been updated yet?

Greetings, I'm currently upgrading my build:
i5-4460. Asus H81M-A. Corsair Vengeance 1x8gb DDR3-1300, Kingston A400 480gb SSD. Gigabyte GV-RX 570 4gb. Corsair CX450M 80+ Bronze and replacing with:
Amd Ryzen 5 5600, Asus Prime B550M-A AC AM4, Kingston FURY Beast 2x8gb DDR4 3200Mhz, Kingston NV2 1TB, PowerColor Fighter Radeon Rx 6600 8gb
Do I need a 3000 series cpu to update bios or will the 5000 series cpu allow me to enter bios settings to update it via usb flash?
My gpu is in shipping and I'd like to test and see the system post or return any faulty equipment within the allotted time provided by seller. My concern is putting it together in vain.
I watched couple vids that left me with doubts and I CBA watching more due to lack of time I'm hecking losing sleep at this point on my days off work. so would like some input please and thanks in advance. Forgive me if this a dumb question. A simple yes/no will suffice.

Ok so it's an Asus motherboard. Look on the motherboard for a barcode. The last 4 digits will be the included bios version from the factory. Compare that to the minimum bios necessary for your CPU. I'd say it's a 99.99% chance you are fine out of the box.

Hey guys I just put together a pc with a 5600x and 3070 in an asus prime b550m-a wifi motherboard and I’m having issues doing a bios update for the 5000 series cpu, I also built one yesterday with a 5600x but in a aorus elite wifi X570 and it had the bios flash button so I was able to update the bios using that but the b550 doesn’t have a button. Any advise is appreciated I don’t want to have to put a 3000 series in to update the bios.

How did you end up updating? My B550M-A WiFi board came 5000 series ready, but I want to update the bios anyway. I have tried their and tried downloading it and launching it from the bios via usb — no luck. The flash app in the bios tells me there is no bios file when I pick the file I downloaded from Asus.
