Both are near equivalent in performance. If the same price, prob go with the MSI since has better reviews. Both have WiFi 6, and B550 features. The MSI has a front USB C port if needing that for the case, and has a M.2 heatsink if going to be using high performance SSD. If using a MicroATX case, the GPU slot sits lower on the Asus so the GPU will be lower to the bottom starting on the 2nd slot down on the back of the case, whereas on the MSI it sits higher in the first slot on the back of the case. The main difference out of the box, is that the Asus will support 5000 series CPUs right away, while the MSI might need a BIOS update. However, the MSI does have a BIOS flash button 'M-flash' to update the BIOS by USB drive, so won't need an older CPU to perform the update. Will just need another computer to prepare a USB drive with the BIOS update. Also, is this a new build? Any thoughts of going AM5 AMD instead of AM4 to have a better upgrade path in the years ahead? Yeah, your friend is right. This mobo's VRM performance is not good. Heats up real fast. It can handle that 5600 you've got but I wouldn't put anything more demanding in that. 2-3 years is a long time buddy. I would say chill out and make the most out of your current system.
