For the 3000 series the motherboard boy had a big label on it. It said Ryzen 3000 compatible or something. I'm assuming there will be a similar logo when the 5000 series launches. You can't upgrade the bios with a CPU that isn't compatible. You need an old one. For the 4xx boards there is a upgrade kit that AMD will lend you to update the BIOS. amd teased at some hidden bios updates before the launch but the details are still somewhat unclear. when in doubt, you could always get a board with a no cpu bios flashback function.

Depends how long ago that particular board was made. Anything made in the last year, yes. Otherwise, might need a bios upgrade to work.

probably the ryzen 5900x is still a 5th gen cpu. the first number of the actual model name matters. the ryzen 5/7/9 branding is meaningless (same as i5/i7/i9).

So here's the thing, I bought the B450 for my Ryzen 2600x CPU because I wanted to upgrade to 5900x in the future and B550 boards didn't support 2600x and the X570 boards were too expensive.
The company I bought my board from screwed up and I will receive my board tomorrow. However I just found X570 board for 40 bucks more than the B450. Should I just return the B450 and buy Asus Prime X570-P ?

Spend a few extra bucks. Tuff x570 plus wifi. The 5900x pulls alot of power.

Hang on to the 450. The features that an x570 would offer, Gen 4 DDR and PCIe, aren't really that useful. Yes theres extra bandwidth, but none of it is ever going to be used. Not outside of industry use anyway. That being said, BIOS support will be around longer on the b550 and x570s. So, depending on your timeline, maybe consider a b550 when you do the upgrade.
