I’ve never tried updating the bios on my builds before, so I am totally new to what risks I might run into. I don’t NEED to update, as I’m still using my 3700x and 6900xt, which work fine. But I want to try Smart Access Memory and need a newer version of bios to enable it.
Are there risks with this set up/mobo when updating the bios? What’s the easiest process to update and what would you suggest I do as a precaution before updating?
Any help or experience would be appreciated!
OK so essentially I was having an issue with my PC that I wasn't able to figure out. Ended up taking it to a repair shop for a diagnosis and was told the motherboard had gone bad. Ordered a new motherboard, installed it and was still having the same issue, only this time I think it might be because the BIOS on the motherboard is an older version than the CPU needs to use(at least I hope that's what it is.) Problem is the motherboard doesn't have BIOS Flashback so I can't just use a flash drive to update it.
As far as I know the only other way to update it would be to use a cpu that's uses the same version of BIOS as the motherboard I have installed, but in an effort to cover my bases I wanted to make a post seeing if there's something that I may have missed before I take it to the repair shop again to have them update it for me. I'd rather not have to pay someone $50 just for a simple BIOS update.
It should also be noted that the motherboard(the one that went bad) mentioned in the link to my previous post is the Asus Prime x470-pro and the one in the title to this post I said Asus Prime x570-p. This wasn't a typo. I did end up just upgrading to a newer version of my old motherboard. The only compatibility issues that pinged were a USB-C port that wouldn't work without a Gen 1 to Gen 2 USB 3.2 header adapter as well as the possibility of the aforementioned BIOS issue and mentioned that updating the BIOS should resolve said issue.
Thank you all in advance.
I have bought a Prime X570-P motherboard that I want to pair with a 5800x. I just found out that my mobo might not necessarily have the latest BIOS update that is needed to run a 5000 series CPU. I know this has the EZ Flash 3 feature that allows me to update the BIOS through the internet. My question is, will the motherboard allow me to do that with a Zen 3 CPU installed with an existing BIOS that doesn't support it?
Hey so I recently bought a Ryzen 5 5600x to match my Asus Prime X570-P but I don’t think that motherboard comes prepared for the Ryzen 5000 series, and I noticed there is no option for a update with a flash drive. Considering I have no other CPU I am pretty blocked. Should I return my motherboard ? What are my options ? Thanks a lot any help is appreciated :)
