Yes, you can use both m.2 slots. Heatshield is an aesthetic thing, doesn't impact your m.2 SSDs. You cannot use harddrives with m.2 slots. More on reddit.com

This information is in your motherboard manual, or on the spec page on the website. M2_1 runs CPU side. Ryzen CPUs have 16+4 lanes, with 16 for the PCIe slots (primarily GPU) and +4 for drives (in this case M2_1). M2_2 runs chipset side and has nothing to do with your GPU. Or should I just go with 1 M2 and one SATA instead? M.2 is a form factor and can be Sata or NVMe. Again per the manual, both slots can run NVMe or Sata. Assuming this is for gaming, NVMe or Sata won't make much difference, any SSD you want to install would be just fine. More on reddit.com

980 pro, 2280 size M. A guy build by computer and didn't send the m.2 hardware when sent fininished pc. Under heat sink I see some low standoffs(from pictures, I haven't opened up and looked under heat ) I know Asus send a standoff and m.2 screws. Will I need a standoff for 2nd m.2 and if so what size. Also m.2 come in 2.5 or 3.0 size. I know I can order from amazon but I want to make sure it includes correct size since they mostly come with different size standoffs and m.2. Thanks.

NVMe m.2 drives come in a variety of sizes, they're all 22mm wide and come in either 30, 42, 80, or 110mm long. Typically a full size motherboard like yours will support all sizes, as I imagine yours probably does, but check the manual or a specs page for your motherboard to confirm. The standoff for the m.2 is normally preinstalled in the m.2 slot. Once you take the heat shield off you'll see it screwed into the board with the SSD retaining screw. When you get your new SSD you'll just need to move the standoff to adjust for the length of the SSD you have, and then secure the drive with the included screw. TL;DR - check under your heat shield, the standoff and screw are likely preinstalled, all you'll need to do is adjust it for the length SSD you get.

Hello I have a new rig just about done and wanted to know if I could have two m.2 ssd on this rig? I saw one spot had a heat shield but the Other slot does not. Can I put a second hard drive there?

Just finished my X570 pro build, I have 2 M.2 installed, the boot comes from the top. Only thing I had to do after installing OS was to format 2nd M.2 so it Could be used.

Hi new builder here!
I was planning on using the ASUS PRIME X570-PRO and going double M2s, how would that work on this board? I’ve heard that on some boards going double M2 might affect the GPU and it’s bandwidth since the second M2 place some times share lanes with the GPU depending on which board you use or something like that... My local shop told me to check the manual but I thought I would ask you guys at the same time... Do any of you know if going two M2s on it will work fine or will it affect my GPU and Im better of just going one M2 and one SATA instead?

One gets dedicated CPU lanes, the other connects through the chipset. GPU would run at x16.
