Ryzen 9 7950X compatibility with Asus prime X570-P?
The X570 boards do not support the 7000 series CPUs - AMD changed the socket type. If you're primarily gaming, the 5800X3D is your best option. If you really want to upgrade to the 7950X, you'll need to upgrade to an AM5 board, either the B650 or X670 chipset. You'll also need DDR5 RAM, since the AM5 boards are not compatible with DDR4. No you do not, a little bird told me (Buildzoid) that the extra 4 pin is pretty much overkill and not needed. The 8 pin can provide more current than the CPU will ever pull. More on reddit.com

r/ryzen on Reddit: Ryzen 9 7950X compatibility with Asus prime X570-P?
March 24, 2023 -
First time replacing a PC part so im a bit inept and came to reddit for help. I wanted to replace my Ryzen 7 3700x to this new CPU.
I watched a YT video on how to do it and first thing they said was make sure its compatible.
Does it just have to be compatible with the motherboard or does it also have strings attached to other components? Do i need special thermal paste or is any fine?
Some additional specs:
•Nvidia Geoforce RTX 2080 Super •GSKILL Trident Z 64GB of Ram •650 Watt 80+ Power Supply

Apart from the 5800x3d, other 5000 cpus are available for better prices and will work well too, if not quite as well as x3d. Upgraded my sons 3700x to a 5800x and saw good gains. The clock speed is much higher for 5000s vs 3000s, so mainly an improvement for gaming but u can expect improved multicore workload performance too. As said, 7000s are an AM5 socket and your mobo supports AM4.
