I wanna know how to update the BIOS so that when it comes time to get a better 14th gen CPU, I can use it without needing a new mobo. I have an Intel Core I5-12600KF right now and I plan on sticking with it for a while until prices for the better 14th gen CPU's potentially go down or until I find a good deal on another mid tier 14th gen CPU like the i5-14600KF

go to motherboard manufacturer's product page download the latest bios from the support section put that file onto a usb drive (follow any directions if there's a readme file with the download) restart pc, enter bios, find bios flash utility and then choose the file on the usb drive and let it do its thing

nope you either need to be lucky and the board has a new BIOS on it - doubt it or get your hands on a Alder Lake CPU to do a BIOS update

Hi Ziladia, I am going to face the same issue so I found this post which has instruction of how to update BIOS without a CPU. https://www.cgdirector.com/update-bios-without-cpu/ Check if your motherboard has a bios flashback function so that you don't need a 12th Gen CPU to update Bios. Hello.
I'm helping a friend build a PC and I'm trying to update the BIOS but we're having difficulty.
Im trying to do it through BIOS using EZupdate.
No matter what I do, I keep getting the error either "the selected file is not a proper BIOS" or "the selected file is not a EUFI BIOS".
I've tried formatting my usb drive to FAT32 (even though it already was FAT32).
I've tried a different usb drive.
I've double checked that I've downloaded the correct BIOS (PRIME Z690-P WIFI BIOS 1401).
I've tried using the renametool it came with to change the file name, same thing happens.
I've tried various other things (including unlocking the zip before extracting which someone suggested).
I don't know what to do from here, could someone give me some advice?

For anyone having an issue with this, I believe there is something wrong with Version 1603 BIOS. I tried numerous times to install it and kept getting the "not a proper BIOS" error. If finally decided to install Version 1402 and it worked.
