Getting a rog ally for that price is decent. Given its the z1 extreme version! Ive had mine for two years, played through the entire from soft catalogue, lies of P, khazan etc. Rocket League is also one of my favorite games which it runs at 120fps 1080p. This little machine made me fall in love with casual gaming again Answer from Ratchetweaksauce on reddit.com

r/ROGAlly on Reddit: ROG Ally in 2025?
June 18, 2025 -

Hi all. I have been looking at the Ally and Ally X for a while, debating both. This has become more difficult with the XBOX versions coming soon.

I’m not a hardcore gamer, only casual and just want something that I can use as a handheld and also dock with a monitor and use as a second pc/larger screen for the gaming side. I have Steam/Epic/GOG accounts etc and just want something I can put all these on.

We already have a few gaming pc/laptops in the house. A PC with an RTX 3060 and a Ryzen 7 laptop with a RTX 4050 but I don’t get a look in and need something use myself.

I have the opportunity to get the current ROG ally for £425 brand new and just wanted views on whether this is still a worthwhile option in 2025.

My logic is, I don’t want to pay £799 for the current ROG Ally X as not sure I would need the benefit let alone pay an extra £350 for them. Then the XBOX versions - if the rumours are true, the base model seems very much an Ally with a few updates which could be £599 from new (ignoring the XBOX Ally X as I expect this to be £799+).

In terms of the Ally SD issues, I usually get insurance with electrical items so if it breaks not too concerned as will be covered.

Many thanks

That's the question from the title. Over the few months I heard from different redditors mention that rog ally base and extreme suffer from overheating due to exhaust is near the card. However I was thinking. Compared to ally x which is best maybe and can used for sometime, how is the extreme is? Is it still useable or viable in 2025 and can use quite sometime like a few years?

Or ally x is the currently only one that is good and at least for the next 1 years to few?

With the announcement of several handhelds from different brands for 2025, and with the specs already known from the competitor Legion Go 2, what improvements do you expect and also what do you think the Rog Ally 2 will have?

I would love to have a bigger screen, OLED, with higher resolution and of course hall effect joysticks and triggers!

I think they have to try to match or improve as much as possible compared to legion go 2 screen. And what you all think about it?

r/ROGAlly on Reddit: Bigger screen handhelds announced for 2025?
July 27, 2024 -

Hi all,

I am an original ROG Ally owner and still using it quite often. Maybe I'm just getting older, but I am having a hard time reading things on the small screen.

I use it primarily to stream my PC to the Ally. Lately because of the reading issues I've defaulted to streaming to my tablet. This works fine, but this means I need to use a standard and a controller in most cases which is less optimal for short sessions which I usually do.

So: are there any rumours/announcements of bigger screen ROG ally (or any other handheld as long as its a pc?)

Thanks!

r/Handhelds on Reddit: Steam Deck OLED vs Rog Ally Z1 Extreme in 2025
May 16, 2025 -

Hi

I am planning to get a handheld console. I already have a PS5 and a high end gaming PC. My office allows reimbursement of gaming consoles up to Rs. 60,000 (USD 700). I am confused which one to get between Steamdeck OLED or a Asus Rog Ally Z1 Extreme. I mostly play games like FIFA, CoD, MSFS and few AAA titles from Gamepass. Have a small steam library. I can also stream games from PS5 and PC to my handheld.

SteamDeck OLED 512 GB

  • Getting is being sold at Rs. 55,000 (USD 642) from HGWorldGaming

  • Has Better display

  • Better Battery Life

  • Seamless experience of a console.

  • Has Suspend feature

Asus ROG Ally Z1 Extreme

  • Being sold at Rs. 37,000 (USD 432) on Flipkart with card discount

  • Poor battery life

  • LCD Display

  • Windows experience might not be as seamless

I also have the option to dual boot Windows on steam deck and Asus also have an option of SteamOS or Bazzite. I am not able to decide which one to get. Folks who have used these handhelds please share your experience.

Ok let me first say I have a Steam Deck OLED 1TB version that I got recently (which I adore) and basically from what I’ve seen researching the rog ally is this: ROG ALLY: -it’s basically a handheld gaming laptop (focused on chugging performance in a small package, no big regard for battery) -can do everything a normal computer can given you can get past the fact it uses a controller layout -can run the latest and greatest games fairly well from what i’ve seen -has a higher res screen (obv. no oled tho) -janky windows experience STEAM DECK OLED -handheld gaming console but with the flexibility of a PC -very battery efficient for what it is -steamOS ui is nice -OLED screen is beautiful -bunch of cool programs n crap you can get through desktop mode (emudeck, decky). there’s a big community around the steam deck and its software in general -kinda hitting its “expiration date” when it comes to running new release AAA titles -linux has its limitations along with the fact dual booting windows can be tedious (from what i’ve seen) I am a bit biased since I just like valve too, but honestly I don’t think there’s a particularly bad option. Personally I got the deck because I figured I’d just stream new AAA titles instead of tinkering to get a more or less “it’s fine” experience on native performance, and otherwise I have a decent backlog of games that I like that don’t burn battery anyway. Ones that I can just plop on my bed and get into in no time. Also, for game pass, only cloud gaming works on steamos. Otherwise you need to dual boot windows to download games off game pass. Let me know if you have questions on the steam deck

I decided to go with the Steam Deck a week or so ago for all the listed reasons, and the Steam Deck was cheaper where I live, although it was used. I do not regret it one bit. Just look at your own list - Steam Deck all postive and except for price, ROG all negative except for price. Looks to me you have already decided. You just haven’t realized yet.

Hi all,i can grab an used,open box,warranty expired Rog Ally Z1 extreme,for 350 eur.

I will use it mostly plugged in and for streaming sunshine/moonlight and some game native mode or emulation.

For this price will be worth it or is better wait for Z2 models since the leaked improvement will be around just 20%?

Just wondering if you hadn't bought your Ally X yet, but you've used it enough to know it's perks and flaws.... Would you buy it now at the beginning of 2025?

There's some handhelds announced which I don't think will really get many people replacing their Ally X simply on paper. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong!

But I'm worried that mid-end of year there will be some new handhelds not officially announced yet that will vastly improve the handheld competition.

Hi! I can buy for the same price rog ally z1e and steam deck lcd, in rog ally I would rather install bazzite.

I have a powerful computer at home, but I travel from time to time and need something that I can connect to a monitor, keyboard and mouse. It will probably be used little on battery (maybe at work)

I'm thinking about rog ally because it has a stronger apu, many people still recommend the deck (trackpad, better support) and now I really don't know what to choose. (legion is out of the question because it's 100€ more expensive for me)

I found a used MSI claw ultra 7 512gb. I know that the claw was very bad optimized at launch. But did they fix it with updates? Does it run games well now? How much fps does it give with which settigs? I would love to hear the comments of both MSI claw and Asus ROG ally Z1 (not Z1 extreme) users. Because if not the claw , I'm thinking of buying an ROG ally.

Hey everyone,

I've been really keeping a keen eye for a handheld PC for a while.

Rog Ally has been on the top of my list amongst the others.

I'd be able to finally afford one next month and it lines up with the release of the Ally X.

I've seen the specs and it looks like it is more of a revision model with some nice upgrades but generally, the same as the og.

I'm definitely in no rush to buy one, but would be nice to have one.

Just wanted to ask the people here, if you were in my shoes, would you purchase the Ally X after the reviews come out or wait for the next generation (hopefully, next year)?

Edit: Thank you, everyone, for the replies!

I think I will buy the Ally X.

By next year, I would have a newborn, and something tells me my wife's mind may change once the baby is out.

Better to purchase now and not regret later !!

I'll just wait a couple of weeks to a month after release to make sure there aren't any crazy bad defects
