Hi all. I have been looking at the Ally and Ally X for a while, debating both. This has become more difficult with the XBOX versions coming soon.
I’m not a hardcore gamer, only casual and just want something that I can use as a handheld and also dock with a monitor and use as a second pc/larger screen for the gaming side. I have Steam/Epic/GOG accounts etc and just want something I can put all these on.
We already have a few gaming pc/laptops in the house. A PC with an RTX 3060 and a Ryzen 7 laptop with a RTX 4050 but I don’t get a look in and need something use myself.
I have the opportunity to get the current ROG ally for £425 brand new and just wanted views on whether this is still a worthwhile option in 2025.
My logic is, I don’t want to pay £799 for the current ROG Ally X as not sure I would need the benefit let alone pay an extra £350 for them. Then the XBOX versions - if the rumours are true, the base model seems very much an Ally with a few updates which could be £599 from new (ignoring the XBOX Ally X as I expect this to be £799+).
In terms of the Ally SD issues, I usually get insurance with electrical items so if it breaks not too concerned as will be covered.
Many thanks
Hi guys should I wait for any update or buy right now

That's the question from the title. Over the few months I heard from different redditors mention that rog ally base and extreme suffer from overheating due to exhaust is near the card. However I was thinking. Compared to ally x which is best maybe and can used for sometime, how is the extreme is? Is it still useable or viable in 2025 and can use quite sometime like a few years?
Or ally x is the currently only one that is good and at least for the next 1 years to few?
With the announcement of several handhelds from different brands for 2025, and with the specs already known from the competitor Legion Go 2, what improvements do you expect and also what do you think the Rog Ally 2 will have?
I would love to have a bigger screen, OLED, with higher resolution and of course hall effect joysticks and triggers!
I think they have to try to match or improve as much as possible compared to legion go 2 screen. And what you all think about it?
Looking for a handheld and can get the ASUS rog Ally (Non X version) for $375 CAD.
Is this still worth it going into 2025? Are there any others, Lenovo Go, MSI claw?
Thank you & Happy New Year!
Will the OG Rog Ally still be worth getting in 2025 or should I wait for the Rog Ally 2 and wait for the price to go down on the Rog Ally X?
Exciting Times with the announcement of Xbox Rog Ally & X.
However as an existing ally X owner, It wouldn't be a huge upgrade for me until an OLED screen is offered because greater specs on exactly the same screen wouldn't mean much.
So hear me out, This is Xbox Rog Ally Collab device. Will we be getting proper Rog Ally 2 and perhaps OLED is being kept in that as an upgrade on top of Z2 Extreme?
Hi all,
I am an original ROG Ally owner and still using it quite often. Maybe I'm just getting older, but I am having a hard time reading things on the small screen.
I use it primarily to stream my PC to the Ally. Lately because of the reading issues I've defaulted to streaming to my tablet. This works fine, but this means I need to use a standard and a controller in most cases which is less optimal for short sessions which I usually do.
So: are there any rumours/announcements of bigger screen ROG ally (or any other handheld as long as its a pc?)
Thanks!
Hi
I am planning to get a handheld console. I already have a PS5 and a high end gaming PC. My office allows reimbursement of gaming consoles up to Rs. 60,000 (USD 700). I am confused which one to get between Steamdeck OLED or a Asus Rog Ally Z1 Extreme. I mostly play games like FIFA, CoD, MSFS and few AAA titles from Gamepass. Have a small steam library. I can also stream games from PS5 and PC to my handheld.
SteamDeck OLED 512 GB
Getting is being sold at Rs. 55,000 (USD 642) from HGWorldGaming
Has Better display
Better Battery Life
Seamless experience of a console.
Has Suspend feature
Asus ROG Ally Z1 Extreme
Being sold at Rs. 37,000 (USD 432) on Flipkart with card discount
Poor battery life
LCD Display
Windows experience might not be as seamless
I also have the option to dual boot Windows on steam deck and Asus also have an option of SteamOS or Bazzite. I am not able to decide which one to get. Folks who have used these handhelds please share your experience.
Hi all,i can grab an used,open box,warranty expired Rog Ally Z1 extreme,for 350 eur.
I will use it mostly plugged in and for streaming sunshine/moonlight and some game native mode or emulation.
For this price will be worth it or is better wait for Z2 models since the leaked improvement will be around just 20%?
Just wondering if you hadn't bought your Ally X yet, but you've used it enough to know it's perks and flaws.... Would you buy it now at the beginning of 2025?
There's some handhelds announced which I don't think will really get many people replacing their Ally X simply on paper. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong!
But I'm worried that mid-end of year there will be some new handhelds not officially announced yet that will vastly improve the handheld competition.
Hi! I can buy for the same price rog ally z1e and steam deck lcd, in rog ally I would rather install bazzite.
I have a powerful computer at home, but I travel from time to time and need something that I can connect to a monitor, keyboard and mouse. It will probably be used little on battery (maybe at work)
I'm thinking about rog ally because it has a stronger apu, many people still recommend the deck (trackpad, better support) and now I really don't know what to choose. (legion is out of the question because it's 100€ more expensive for me)
I found a used MSI claw ultra 7 512gb. I know that the claw was very bad optimized at launch. But did they fix it with updates? Does it run games well now? How much fps does it give with which settigs? I would love to hear the comments of both MSI claw and Asus ROG ally Z1 (not Z1 extreme) users. Because if not the claw , I'm thinking of buying an ROG ally.
I recently bought a brand new ROG Ally Z1E an R9 version for a steal price. What are the first things that I need to do to fully optimize my device? Or there are tweaks that I need to do before starting playing my games?
Thanks in advance guys!
Hey everyone,
I've been really keeping a keen eye for a handheld PC for a while.
Rog Ally has been on the top of my list amongst the others.
I'd be able to finally afford one next month and it lines up with the release of the Ally X.
I've seen the specs and it looks like it is more of a revision model with some nice upgrades but generally, the same as the og.
I'm definitely in no rush to buy one, but would be nice to have one.
Just wanted to ask the people here, if you were in my shoes, would you purchase the Ally X after the reviews come out or wait for the next generation (hopefully, next year)?
Edit: Thank you, everyone, for the replies!
I think I will buy the Ally X.
By next year, I would have a newborn, and something tells me my wife's mind may change once the baby is out.
Better to purchase now and not regret later !!
I'll just wait a couple of weeks to a month after release to make sure there aren't any crazy bad defects
