I was a early purchaser of the OG ROG Ally and aside from the eventual RMA needed for the infamous SD card issue (which was surprisingly only a 1 week turnaround from dropoff to pick up) I have greatly enjoyed the device and even tossed in a 2 TB M.2 some time ago to pack in more games. However there were always a few games that I felt like I had to really stretch the Ally to play well, so the X of course intrigued me for the possibility of just a little more headroom, as I am sure it has many others here.
I am happy to report that the X does give you more than a little headroom, particularly in one key area besides the extra/faster RAM: the temps. In Hogwarts Legacy for example, I was averaging around 40 FPS on Low with semi-frequent stutters as the APU would hit 95 degrees and throttle. The X with the same settings was hitting 48-50 and settled at 84 degrees without throttling. It lets me add just a little more juice to a number of games that were playable on the OG but are now enjoyable on the X. Throw in the overall small improvements in things like the thumbsticks, the extra USB-C (playing on my Rokid Airs while still being able to charge is great) and the fat battery just makes this a great upgrade for my playing preferences. This isn't a generational leap by any stretch but it definitely is a satisfying upgrade and I can now repurpose my old Ally as a jack-of-all-trades emulation station/lighter gaming/quick PC in a pinch.

If budget is tight, get a Z1E if you’re ok with a power bank or tinkering for a battery mod. Best Buy has plenty of open box deals on it. $50 battery mod, a YouTube tutorial and an hour of time would still cost less than the X. I would only do if you’re past warranty tho. But if you want that all and more without the risks during tinkering, then the X is worth it. More on reddit.com

I’ve had both. If you can afford it, go with the X. The memory and battery life are worth it. Also, 2280 m.2s instead of 2230 are great. I hated the joysticks on the regular ally. They are very loose. I miss the lightness and ergonomics of the regular ally. I sold my Xbox series x and built an egpu and it gives me the best of all worlds. More on reddit.com

So really, you’re going to want to look at the Z1Extreme or the X. They are pretty similar. The X has more RAM and a bigger battery, along with better thumb sticks. If you’re going to mainly play at home where charging isn’t an issue, the Best Buy sale on the Z1E right now is hard to pass up. More on reddit.com

I have nobody to ask, so i ask here, im so sorry if this question has been ask before, but as time goes by sometime people will think its no longer worth for example only due to newer device releasing, or its towards end of service in a few years. i have never bought a console before so here i am asking,
Is Rog Ally base still worth even if its not the Rog Ally X series? Apart from the price lower, also i never use pc handheld console before, so are there end of service unlike phones, and Nintendo switch or PlayStation for instance?
Edit: Am I able to check the battery health? Considering X but not sure if it's able to see battery health
Reason im getting because my environment isn't stable for me to carry around a gaming pc, laptop are overprice with lower specs.

Base Rog Ally was never worth it, even before Ally X came out. Z1 extreme version of Rog Ally is still worth looking at if you are looking for cheap alternatives
