ASUS ROG Crosshair VIII Dark Hero
The ASUS ROG Crosshair VIII Dark Hero is a refresh of last year's award winning ROG Crosshair VIII Hero. With an even more powerful VRM, a sleek new look, and, most importantly, no chipset cooling fan, the ROG Crosshair VIII Dark Hero looks to be a worthy upgrade from last year's model.

Asus ROG Crosshair VIII Dark Hero X570 worth the premium over Aorus Master?
Not really worth it imo. If you compare the results of Gamer's Nexus tests where they list both a completely stock (no PBO) and a static 4.7 (or 4.6, can't remember) overclock, the stock results seem to outperform the static oc in most, if not all, gaming benchmarks. So I would not go through the hassle of returning the board, ordering a new one and messing with your setup. More on reddit.com

Performance Review - ASUS ROG Crosshair VIII Dark Hero
January 8, 2021 - On the MSI MEG X570 GODLIKE, our Ryzen 7 5800X boosted up to 4.75GHz on specific cores during load. It’s pretty decent I’d say but the performance seems to be slightly better when we have it installed on the ASUS ROG Crosshair VIII Dark Hero, which boosted up to 4.85GHz on specific cores during load.

May 3, 2022 - As for the X570 “Dark Hero” version of this motherboard, it only adds a few changes in the specs: more robust power stages and dynamic overclocking, plus removing the chipset fan for less noise.

ASUS ROG CROSSHAIR VIII DARK HERO – Motherboard Review
Another significant difference between the Dark and the original Hero is the styling. The Dark tweaks things a bit with the heatsinks using a grooved pattern on the chipset/M.2 covers as well as the VRM heatsinks around the socket. ... With the ASUS ROG Crosshair VIII Dark Hero we are looking at the successor to the Crosshair VIII Hero in the test this year.

Asus ROG Crosshair VIII Hero (Wifi) review | Rock Paper Shotgun
August 29, 2019 - Still, when it came to testing my PCIe 4.0 Gigabyte Aorus NVMe Gen4 SSD, the Crosshair VIII Hero beat the lot of them, producing a random read speed of 66.3MB/s and a random write speed of 167.4MB/s. The latter is only a handful of MB/s in front of the MSI, all told, which managed 162.1MB/s, but it's much more promising than the Gigabyte's result of just 151.9MB/s. Ultimately, though, the Asus ROG Crosshair VIII Hero still doesn't feel quite as good value for money as the nippy £220 / $210 MSI X570 Gaming Edge, even if it does come with all the USB ports in the world.

r/Amd on Reddit: Asus ROG Crosshair VIII Dark Hero X570 worth the premium over Aorus Master?
January 7, 2021 -

I was one of the lucky ones who got my 5900X shortly after launch. But now I am in waiting limbo for
a lot of parts for my build, and I am starting to reconsider my choice of MB

I have ordered a X570 Gigabyte Aorus Master, but have now started looking at the dynamic OC switching on the Dark Hero and thinking if I should go for this instead. (The Aorus is 510 USD and the Dark Hero is 675 USD here in Norway)

But I can not figure out if the DOS will have any impact on gaming. Are there any games that will benefit greater from an all core OC over a higher boost on a few cores?

If this would only be beneficial for productivity tasks, I will say "Nice to have, but not worth it" since I am also loosing a M.2 slot compared to the Aorus.

Originally posted this in r/AMDHelp, but it is not really a troubleshooting question.

Thnx in advance

July 22, 2021 - The IO shield, which is usually loose and often a nightmare to get aligned or even worse when you realize you forgot to install it, is now fixed into place. Even when running in “stealth mode” as ASUS calls it, with no RGB, the ASUS ROG Crosshair VIII Dark Hero fits perfectly into nearly any build that does not favor a white build.

ASUS Unveils Sexy ROG Crosshair VIII Dark Hero Motherboard with Passive Cooling
October 9, 2020 - “The massive amount of PCIe 4.0 bandwidth available from the X570 chipset requires a careful approach to achieve fanless cooling, but we’ve risen to the challenge,” boasted ASUS. “The Dark Hero is our first X570 board to implement a passive cooling design. A massive high surface area heatsink covers the chipset and extends into the space between the main PCIe slots to provide plenty of heat dissipation. Compared to the active cooling design on the Crosshair VIII Hero, the Dark Hero’s chipset temperature under load is just 2.25% higher in our internal testing.”

Asus Crosshair VIII DARK Hero.... Official Thread!? | Page 72 | Overclock.net
Anyone have any idea when this board will be released? reviewers have it, so the chances could be soon maybe?? I love the new option of being able to keep the "boost" ability even while setting a static OC... that option alone sold me on this board... ... Yeah, the M.2 slot driven by the chipset is slower. It's a known thing, but I don't know if Asus documents it anywhere.

October 9, 2020 - Click to expand... I like white and I usually like NZXTs styling, but there's just something awkward about that board. At least this ASUS looks clean in all black. Maybe it's the coordinated pattern on the M.2 sinks, but even without the full PCB covered, I do quite like it.
