I am looking to prepare a build for the upcoming Ryzen 5950x and had my eye on the Crosshair VIII Hero. Upon looking at some last minute reviews online I noticed ASUS is releases a slightly upgraded version called the Dark Hero. I am not sure however how much of a difference, if any, their upgrades are going to make and it I should just wait for the dark if it really does not matter.

I was one of the lucky ones who got my 5900X shortly after launch. But now I am in waiting limbo for
a lot of parts for my build, and I am starting to reconsider my choice of MB
I have ordered a X570 Gigabyte Aorus Master, but have now started looking at the dynamic OC switching on the Dark Hero and thinking if I should go for this instead. (The Aorus is 510 USD and the Dark Hero is 675 USD here in Norway)
But I can not figure out if the DOS will have any impact on gaming. Are there any games that will benefit greater from an all core OC over a higher boost on a few cores?
If this would only be beneficial for productivity tasks, I will say "Nice to have, but not worth it" since I am also loosing a M.2 slot compared to the Aorus.

Not really worth it imo. If you compare the results of Gamer's Nexus tests where they list both a completely stock (no PBO) and a static 4.7 (or 4.6, can't remember) overclock, the stock results seem to outperform the static oc in most, if not all, gaming benchmarks. So I would not go through the hassle of returning the board, ordering a new one and messing with your setup.

I got one before the slight price increase. Why you ask? Welp, my wife is ready to have a baby. I've built and upgraded computers for years but never from current gen hardware. Always a gen or two behind to save money. So with my finances surely to be wrapped up with a child soon, I decided to for once go all out and got a 5900x and a Dark Hero. Did I need it? No. Does it look sexy as hell? Yes. Sure I could have gotten a B550 or Tomahawk X570, but I treated myself and decided to flex. All of that to say, it's your money and your personal choice. It's a great motherboard. But there are other great motherboards for cheaper. I'd save the money unless you just look at the Dark Hero and it turns you on.

October 29, 2020 - Has a better sound system. Optimem III vs Optimem 1 which means a much better memory design. Better VRM. More I/O. It should be just a better board but the X570-E is very good. Noise is a huge deal for me and the Dark Hero will be more quiet so it is likely my choice.
