The Crosshair VIII boards are massive levels of overkill. Don't get me wrong they're good boards, just bad value and this is coming from a Crosshair VIII owner. They do have some niche features like the liquid cooling sensor headers that you may want, but if you just want a board that works well with Ryzen 5000, get a B550 board. r/buildapc on Reddit: AMD motherboard options, Asus ROG Crosshair VIII Hero or MSI X570S Carbon - OPEN to suggestions for something else :)
October 30, 2021 -

Hey guys, I hope everyone is doing well.

I am looking to build yet another PC and I will be going with AMD (finally). I've been using Intel for my past few builds but Intel just doesn't seem like the best bang for the buck anymore.

Anyway, I would like to get some opinions on current high-end(ish) motherboards.

Currently I'm between:

Asus ROG Crosshair VIII Hero: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/asus-rog-crosshair-viii-hero-socket-am4-usb-c-gen2-amd-motherboard-with-led-lighting/6356982.p?skuId=6356982

and the...

MSI X570S Carbon MAX Wifi: https://www.newegg.com/msi-mpg-x570s-carbon-max-wifi/p/N82E16813144493?Description=MSI%20X570S%20Carbon%20MAX%20Wifi&cm_re=MSI_X570S%20Carbon%20MAX%20Wifi-_-13-144-493-_-Product&quicklink=true

BUT, I would absolutely consider any suggestions that you may have in mind. I will admit I am a bit of an ASUS fanboy and have been using their motherboards for about a decade now. They have never given me a problem and have always been reliable (knock on wood). I am also one to "future proof" my purchases so I would consider a motherboard that is a bit on the pricier side if it has bells and whistles that could be suitable for years to come. (Well, at least 2 years lol).

It would probably help in suggesting a suitable mobo if you knew what components I'd be running along with it. Bear with me for I am still undecided on certain things. To get an idea, however: AMD 5800X, 32gb Corsair Vengence PRO RBG C16 RAM(It's B-die so it will work very well with my processor/mobo), either a Samsung 980 or 970 Pro NVMe PCI-E 4.0/3.0 drive, & a Corsair H150i cpu cooler

Guys, I know this is a lot to read so I really appreciate you taking the time to look this over and/or comment. This is also my second reddit post so I also appreciate your patience.

Thank you and enjoy the weekend!

September 6, 2020 - I have Cleared the CMOS ( I am not sure if resetting the CMOS puts the BIOS back to a default state ) I have reset the BIOS and reinstalled the latest from ASUS ( 2206) I am not a PC tech type guy so I have been relying on help from forums and tech support with various issues to this point but I am not convinced that the techs helping me with this problem are familiar with their own products or just following a flow chart diagnoses which is not helping. Any thoughts on where to go next? I will be requesting a change of NVMe card on Monday and failing that a full refund on the board Tuesday!! Cheers Kev ... I do have ASUS crosshair viii hero with 3950x, but only "normal" SSDs and no NVMe.

r/Amd on Reddit: Asus ROG Crosshair VIII Dark Hero X570 worth the premium over Aorus Master?
January 7, 2021 -

I was one of the lucky ones who got my 5900X shortly after launch. But now I am in waiting limbo for
a lot of parts for my build, and I am starting to reconsider my choice of MB

I have ordered a X570 Gigabyte Aorus Master, but have now started looking at the dynamic OC switching on the Dark Hero and thinking if I should go for this instead. (The Aorus is 510 USD and the Dark Hero is 675 USD here in Norway)

But I can not figure out if the DOS will have any impact on gaming. Are there any games that will benefit greater from an all core OC over a higher boost on a few cores?

If this would only be beneficial for productivity tasks, I will say "Nice to have, but not worth it" since I am also loosing a M.2 slot compared to the Aorus.

Originally posted this in r/AMDHelp, but it is not really a troubleshooting question.

Thnx in advance
