Imagine each RAM stick is like a glass of water. 16oz = 16 gigs of RAM 32oz = 32 gigs of RAM Now lets say you want to heat those glasses of water up to boiling for coffee. The 32oz glass will need more energy and more time to heat up than the 16oz. The 16oz glass may take 3 minutes where the latter takes 7. Because of this, you can't use the same "settings" to heat the water to boiling in an expected time. Now imagine you need to guarantee boiling that water in 2 minutes. That requires different voltages. And certain parts of the glass will heat up faster. All these factors of physics come in. Different RAM sizes have different hertz rating, RAM timings, RAM training, and methods for accessing each piece of memory in that stick. That serial number shows the type of chip used, but has a different controller, a different number of chips, and will require different timings. ASUS didn't get a chance to test timings on that specific DIMM (in a 32 gig setting)... yet. BIOS updates include an updated list of RAM timing they've tested, along with CPUs. However, you can use programs like www.hwinfo.com to find settings other people have found through trial and error. You can use programs like OCCT and MemTestx86 (Bootable, it's actually in your motherboard already) to test RAM settings. I generally go for 2 minutes no errors and then 8 minutes to "qualify" as stable. Some people go for a full hour, but I've found 8 minutes is good. Answer from gordonv on reddit.com

r/ASUS on Reddit: Asus rog-maximus-z790-hero RAM Support?
July 4, 2023 -

Hello everyone.

I was just wondering if this corsair ram is supported with this board -

CMT64GX5M2B6400C32

I checked the official compatibility matrix here https://rog.asus.com/motherboards/rog-maximus/rog-maximus-z790-hero-model/helpdesk_qvl_memory/

It seems that the same version of the ram is listed with 2 16 gig sticks but not with 2 32 gig sticks. CMT32GX5M2B6400C23 is listed. So why would the 2x 16 be compatible but not the 2x 32?

Thanks!
