The CPU will not run any slower, that's complete nonsense. Both Z690 and Z790 will give the CPU as much power as it can take without going over its thermal limit. The only real difference between 690 and 790 is that 790 officially supports slightly higher RAM speeds. However people have been OCing past 10,000 MHz on Z690 without any issue so the likelihood you'll run into any problems with RAM are pretty damn low. Yes, you have to flash the BIOS on 690 boards but that takes about 15 minutes and saves you a good chunk of money. More on reddit.com

I913900k, Asus ROG strix z790-F / G-Skill 7600. So I passed Memtest86 at 7400 with the newest bios update. I will test with a different software now.

You should've enabled multi-core during the test, it runs way faster.

As the title suggests which motherboard is better? I’ve heard mixed reviews that I should go with Z790 because the Z690 with 13th Gen Intel CPU requires BIOS, runs slower, etc. on the Z690. Is this true? I thought there was no performance difference between the two.

No difference, but if you want to run fast RAM get a good one. My Z690 prime couldn’t hit anything last 6000mhz even when overclocked, i switched to a unify z690i and the same sticks easily hit 7000mhz cl34
